Thomson Reuters has consistently maintained its status among the premier global publishers, characterized by its impressive profit margins and enduring market presence. Following RELX and Thomson Reuters, Pearson secures the third position with revenues amounting to $4.75 billion, while Penguin Random House closely follows in fourth place, reporting revenues of $4.69 billion. Pearson, renowned as a British educational company, and Penguin Random House, an esteemed American publishing entity, both boast extensive histories within the publishing realm. Occupying the fifth spot is Hachette, a distinguished French publishing firm, whose humble origins as a small port in the 19th century paved the way for rapid expansion through strategic acquisitions and sustained growth. Publishers demonstrate a steadfast commitment to safeguarding their rights, supported by rights preservation institutions and seasoned legal experts dedicated to protecting the interests of writers and publishers alike. CONNECT WITH ME Last week was the editorial deadline for issue 59 of Niche Magazine, due out in early July. I'm really excited about this issue! The deadline means we've been tidying up the final bits and pieces, prepping everything for design, and proofreading page layouts. All the glamorous elements of magazine publishing. This is the first issue under our new business model for inclusion in the magazine. Our brand booster package (see Tracey Hunter for more details) means businesses can pay an affordable monthly fee for their ads to be included (along with other benefits), which has freed up writers like myself and Emily Miller to produce brand new editorial content. It's allowed us to include businesses and a side of Leicester that we've never featured before, and it's been such a joy to work on. Much of what I've written for this issue is themed around connection (quite by accident - perhaps I was feeling lonely at the time! ??), and the different ways people interact with each other. One of the pleasures of my job is getting to talk to people and hear their stories; to take the time to listen to and connect with them. I spoke to Barry Taylor about Laugh Therapy, and learned about ways to inspire a more enjoyable company culture. I met Sam Cunnington, the owner of ReRoll Board Game Café, and we spoke about the importance of quality time and connecting with friends. I spoke to Adam Baskill about podcasting, and the human desire for long-form conversation. And Stacey Wragg told me about collaboration between creative freelancers, and how she's helping them find each other and opportunities. The big feature I've written is a 10-page spotlight on Makers' Yard. What a day I had interviewing the eclectic group of creative business owners down there! Giulia Mio, Sarah Laws, Claire Shell, Gary Veeren, Bhavna Gandhi, Neh Sharma, and Dean Williams all talked to me about art, creativity, collaboration, and business - a fascinating day! Then I went back a few days later to interview my friend, Danielle Tomlinson, and we recorded the makings of a pretty decent podcast! We discussed art's role in connecting humanity, shared experiences, how to find happiness, and what it takes to build a successful business as an artist. We live in a world where face value is higher than content value. Books are judged by their covers. Videos by their thumbnails. Movies by their posters. The internet demands that you create something nobody has seen before. The attention economy is a hungry beast looking for new and peculiar visuals to gulp into the world.? Cornell University found that 68% of people believe a scientific claim is presented in words or numbers. But add a simple graph, and that number jumps to 97%. Our brains are wired to process images faster than text, and in a fast-paced world, visuals are the language of choice. A YouTube video will get more views than an article using the same script. People post selfies on LinkedIn because they know they sell, even if they’re cringe-worthy sometimes. “An image is worth a thousand words, but an experience is worth a thousand images.”?—?Jon?Krakauer It's time to add the following in your content -Graphs -Visuals -Photos -Gifs -Memes -Infographics These elements create a richer, more immersive experience for your readers. Bloggers who add 7+ images in a post get 2.3x more results. And this is why I love storytelling. It is that ingredient that brings life to every blog content. It is the thing that makes every article relatable, inspiring, and authentic. It is the "everything nice" in the Power Puff Girls formula (comment if you used to binge-watch this show!) To be clear, storytelling is not just interviews. If you're a good writer, you know how to inject great storytelling even in the most boring articles. To, you know, make them less boring. And that has always been my goal—produce articles people would actually relate to and enjoy reading. Give me the most boring topic, and I'll add life to it. Give me the most complex article idea and I'll make it an easy read. Storytelling is a skill and no, it's not easy. But I'd be lying if I said it's not worth learning. 1. Write out a plan of photo and video shots. 2. Get in front of the camera and tell your story. 3. Gather current and past clients and ask them questions about their experiences, record everything. 4. Partner with a great editor that understands what you’re looking for, create long and short-form content for all of the channels. 5. Do this more than once a year. Not everything has the be polished, professionally edited, and “tv ready”(which has a new definition today). Get started.

The Ghostwriting industry is on fire. ?? Some stats that will blow your mind: 1. The global ghostwriting market is projected to grow by 6% annually through 2030. 2. Over 60% of non-fiction bestsellers are ghostwritten. 3. The demand for ghostwriting services has increased by 30% over the past five years. But it’s not until you break each of these down that you realize how quickly the Ghostwriting industry is really growing: 1. The global ghostwriting market is projected to grow by 6% annually through 2030. This is an impressive stat at face value. But what’s 10x more impressive is the $2.6 billion market size expected by 2030. That’s more than double the growth rate of many creative industries. This is a signal of where things might be headed. 2. Over 60% of non-fiction bestsellers are ghostwritten. The last time an industry saw growth like this, it was in the early 2000s when digital content creation surged and changed the media landscape. I’m betting the same thing will happen again here. 3. The demand for ghostwriting services has increased by 30% over the past five years. As if the above wasn’t impressive enough, this stat is just mind-boggling. To give you a sense of how big that is, that’s like producing the equivalent of a new blockbuster movie script every week. Or like generating enough content to fill an entire library every year. My guess? Ghostwriting is going to eventually overtake content creation the same way social media overtook traditional advertising. And at this rate, that will probably happen by 2030.
