Happy #EarthDay or how I love to call it happy #WorldGreenwashingDay ?? ?? Earth Day is a global movement since 1970 with the goal to mobilize people for a greater #protection for our #planet. This year’s motto “Planet vs. Plastics” wants to shed a light on how harmful microplastics are not only for the environment, but also for human health. For some reason, companies – despite the clear call to action and cause – feel the need to use this exact day to talk about their #sustainability initiatives and commitments. What have they achieved? Here are some examples of yesterday’s posts here on LinkedIn: ? A billion-dollar company known for their very sweet coffees, announced to use some % of recycled plastics instead of virgin in their single use beverage cups (I thought we learned that this is not solving the health issues associated with microplastics?) ?? A billion-dollar fashion house presenting their material innovation lab (a LAB), where they have currently 4,000 material swatches of innovative materials at hand. No mention on if / how they are used in the actual products they are selling? ?? Companies having donated a certain amount of money to a good cause or planting even more trees on Earth Day weekend And some evergreens: ?? Companies creating 100% plastic products, but switching to paper-based packaging ??♀? Textile companies flexing with their % of recycled polyester used ?? Companies publishing a sustainability report full of goals they want to accomplish by some time far in the future without a concrete action plan or any concrete R&D activities Do you know what they all have in common? They lack PRODUCT INNOVATION. All of these initiatives clearly show that companies are willing to spend a lot of money as long as it doesn’t involve working on the products they are actually selling. And why? This is where the true work begins, where you need to do R&D that is costly, that is risky, that you cannot communicate immediately to your costumers. So as long as you read some great celebrate #EarthDay statement from a company pumping more plastic into the world with their plastic products, I would say this is nothing more than #WorldGreenWashingDay ;)

#WorldEnvironmentDay, celebrated annually on June 5th, serves as a reminder of the critical importance of #environmental conservation and sustainable living. One of the aspects highlighted in recent years is the impact of our #gifting choices on the environment. So what are Sustainable Gifting Options: Eco-Friendly Products: Choose gifts made from sustainable materials such as bamboo, recycled plastic, or organic cotton. These materials have a lower environmental impact. Handmade and Local Gifts: Support local artisans and businesses. Handmade gifts typically have a smaller carbon footprint and support the local economy. Experiential Gifts: Give experiences rather than physical items. Examples include tickets to events, memberships to museums, or vouchers. Zero-Waste Gifts: Opt for gifts that produce little to no waste, such as reusable water bottles, Plants, Seed Balls etc. Do reach out to us for such varied range of products. #whistlians #whistlesolutions #corporategifting #gifting #hr #administration #corporates

On a scale of 1-10 how stressful and overwhelming do you find gift-giving for colleagues or loved ones these days (let us know below)? As a gifting service in a world of #consumerism and #greenwashing we find simply staying true to our 'roots' has been our best tactic. ?? The #giftingindustry, valued at around $475 billion globally, has significant environmental impacts with one of the primary concerns being waste generation from unwanted products and packaging materials like plastic and non-recyclable wrapping paper. Consumers are increasingly aware of this, driving a trend toward sustainability in gifting. The Eco-Gifting Index 2024 indicates a 40% increase in demand for sustainable and #ecofriendly gifts compared to the previous year, such as reusable products, biodegradable packaging, and gifts that support sustainable practices. These choices help mitigate the industry's negative effects on the environment by reducing waste and promoting more responsible consumption. Additionally, the popularity of experiential gifts is on the rise. Nature based and experience gifting not only lower the carbon footprint associated with modern gift-giving of mass produced products, but also aligns with the growing consumer preference for meaningful, less materialistic forms of gifting. At #Tree2mydoor we are proud to be one of the worlds first nature based gifting services, delivering living gifts for lasting memories for over two decades now, with over 500,000 gifts planted across the globe. ?? #CorporateGifting #EnvironmentalImpact Sources: WorldMetrics,IndianRetailer.com Collaber

?? Giveaways at Events: Goodbye Plastic, Hello Purpose! ?? Planning an event in today’s world? Let’s face it: sustainability isn’t just a trend, it’s a must. Gone are the days of plastic water bottles, disposable swag, and giveaways that end up in the junk drawer (or worse, the ocean ??). Here are a few sustainable ideas that will make your next event a win for both your guests and the planet: ?? Giveaways That Grow Instead of branded plastic items, why not give your attendees something they can plant? Think mini herb kits, seed packets, or even tiny potted succulents. They’ll not only remember your event, but they’ll have fresh basil to show for it! ?? Local, Edible Goodies Who doesn’t love snacks? Skip the generic giveaways and opt for locally sourced treats like honey, olive oil, or chocolates from a nearby artisan. Sustainable, delicious, and let’s be honest — everyone loves something they can eat. ?? Reusable & Stylish Forget single-use plastic. Custom reusable bags, stainless steel bottles, or bamboo cutlery sets are all the rage. Bonus points if they’re stylish enough for your attendees to actually want to use them again. ?? Donate, Don’t Waste Rather than traditional giveaways, why not donate to a cause on behalf of your attendees? A tree planted, a charity supported, or a sustainability project funded— now that’s a giveaway that keeps on giving. Sustainable practices don’t just make your events greener — they make them more memorable. After all, who needs another branded stress ball when they could have a basil plant named after your event? ?? #eventplanning #sustainability #meetincroatia

For 159 years, The HEINEKEN Company has been brewing the beer the world loves. Transitioning to a circular economy is a must if we plan to be here for many generations to come. Inspired by principles of a circular economy championed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation — eliminate waste and pollution, circulate products and materials, and regenerate nature — we're on a mission to maximize the circularity of our products.? ? ?? Our strategy is built on three pillars:? - Reuse: We continue to transition from one-way packaging to reusable formats, reducing the need for new materials. Our 2030 goal: 43% of volumes sold in reusable format - Recycled Content: elevating recycling rates, fostering collaboration and closing the loop to increase % of recycled materials in our packaging and reduce the amount of virgin material. Our 2030 goal: 50% recycled content in bottles and cans - Recyclable by Design: We want to make our packaging recyclable by design so consumers can recycle and help us close the loop. Our 2030 goal: 99% of all packaging is recyclable by design Earth Day is a reminder of the continuous journey we're on to Brew a Better World, one beer at a time. Cheers to Another Round! ????? ? Enough with the Name Tags! ?? Every event, I'm handed another name tag and lanyard that inevitably lands in the trash. I've probably thrown away enough to fill a landfill all by myself. Sure, I try to recycle the plastic parts, but who knows if they’re even recyclable? I've seriously debated creating my own reusable name tag and wearing that. But when I mentioned it, someone replied "how will people know you're part of the event, Dr. D.?" We can do better. Why not ask attendees to return their lanyards and name tags at the end? Use generic ones so they can be reused. Let’s make sustainable choices, even in the small things. What other eco-friendly event tips do you have? Share below!
