Fascinating story from SE1 News today: two primary schools in Southwark looking to merge, meaning three primary schools will have closed over the past three years in proximity to Elephant and Castle. This is not just a central London borough issue, with Scrutiny reports at Council's across the capital reporting there are too many spaces for the number of children set to enrol over the next couple of years. This will inevitably mean more closures and mergers. Yet across the Counties that surround London, schools (and housing) can't be built quick enough to meet the demand. This is why Council's such as Enfield Council IMO are right to look at green belt release, as proposed in the Local Plan. We need in London family sized apartments and homes and built in volume, provided at all types of affordable touch points and market value. And we need them quick.

Is your district fully aware of managing and maximizing ESSER I and ESSER II funds? Understanding the extensions, limitations, and considerations that come with these resources is crucial. These funds are specifically earmarked for various purposes, including bolstering daily student attendance, providing tutoring services, expanding access to before- and after-school programs, and summer and extended learning opportunities. Addressing chronic absenteeism requires tackling multiple underlying issues, such as physical health concerns, barriers to accessing school facilities, inadequate behavioral health support, and exposure to violence or trauma. One practical approach is to leverage school social workers through telepractice to eliminate obstacles to accessing social services, ultimately enhancing school attendance rates. Among the significant barriers families face in accessing services are transportation challenges and financial hardship. By harnessing teletherapy services, families can begin their journey toward receiving the support they need. This improves school attendance among students and sets them on a path toward a brighter future.
Time is running out for school districts to spend their remaining federal COVID-relief dollars. Here's what districts can do to extend the deadline.

At the time of a relationship breakdown, discussions between separated parents as to a child’s future schooling can prove particularly challenging. With the prospect now of an imminent rise to independent school fees, if the Labour Party's stated policy to apply VAT to school fees is implemented - the continued affordability of private schooling is an issue which will increasingly fall for discussion.
