Illinois recently had some big economic development wins, like #TheBlochQuantum on Chicago’s South Side and the iFAB Tech Hub in Central Illinois, that were made possible by the EDA Tech Hubs Program. But with possible federal funding cuts on the horizon, it’s time to start thinking about new ways to support technology-based economic growth. This is an opportunity for higher education, state and local governments, and the private sector to partner and take the lead.

This initiative, led by UVM and GlobalFoundries, will bring cutting-edge innovation to Vermont, creating 500+ new jobs in the state but also generating a ripple effect by building the infrastructure that empowers innovative companies like BETA TECHNOLOGIES and Resonant Link to create greater economic opportunity and a more sustainable future. This isn’t just a win for Vermont either. Working to create an environment conducive to manufacturing and technology growth in Vermont
I've been looking forward to writing this post for almost a year. Early yesterday morning the US Economic Development Agency announced they will fund the V-GaN Tech Hub's implementation grant. It has been a long road, filled with ups and downs, and I've had the privilege of traveling it with many, many smart, dedicated partners and co-workers. I'm so proud of the team we have assembled, and grateful that the EDA recognized the potential that we can unlock in northern New England. Now we have to deliver. The federal funding is not a gift, it is an investment. It will be up to these same partners and team members to get to work to put these funds to use, to ensure we make meaningful improvements in our region's economy that will benefit our residents for decades to come.
