Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Helene, especially our neighbors in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. The storm has left behind a trail of destruction and catastrophic flooding, and many communities continue to face immense challenges. This is a time for our community to unite and support those in need, and we are deeply inspired by the efforts already underway. In response, The Leon Levine Foundation is committing $5 million to aid both immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts. These funds will ensure that essential resources like food, water, and shelter are quickly provided to those who need them most. We have already distributed an initial $1 million grant to the COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA, INC (CFWNC) to support its Emergency and Disaster Response Fund, which is assisting relief efforts across 18 counties. Additionally, we have provided additive unrestricted support to all of our existing partners in Western NC to help address urgent financial needs. In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, many organizations will be seeking donations to support response and recovery efforts. Sadly, this is also go-time for scammers. So what’s a well-intended donor to do? ?????? Your research! Just like you wouldn’t buy a car without test-driving it first, look into causes that are asking for your money. Some reliable resources to aid in your vetting are Charity Navigator, CharityWatch, GuideStar and Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance. A little good, old-fashioned googling can’t hurt either. At the very least, any legitimate charity who is responding to Helene (or any disaster) would have information about it on their website and social media. Be a good Sherlock Holmes and vet, Vet, VET your causes. Bonus, insider two cents — as a former United Way employee, I know and trust in their disaster response funds. Based in North Carolina, our hearts are heavy with sorrow as we witness the unprecedented destruction Hurricane Helene has brought upon our western counties. Despite the valiant efforts of first responders, the National Guard, utility teams, and relief personnel, the most severely affected areas are still isolated, struggling to access necessities like gas, food, water, electricity, and cell service. The impact extends beyond our state borders, affecting communities in Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida with significant damage. Although our facilities were not damaged, many of us have colleagues, friends, relatives, neighbors, and clients who have suffered losses. Confronted with such immense hardship and loss, it can be challenging to identify how best to offer support. However, by coming together in solidarity we can create positive change. We encourage you to stand with Alcami by contributing to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund to assist our neighbors on their lengthy journey to recovery. Alternatively if you already support a trusted non-profit known for their effective relief efforts consider donating directly to them or think about supporting the American Red Cross or Salvation Army. Let's keep these communities close in our thoughts and do everything within our power to support them through this difficult time. In the wake of Hurricane Helene, the Vision of Hope Foundation stands in solidarity with the Tennessee Special Response Team-A (TN STR-A). This dedicated non-profit has been tirelessly working to provide crucial search and rescue services amidst the devastating floods that hit our community in September-October 2024. The bravery and commitment of TN STR-A, comprising expertly trained professionals and K-9 units, is nothing short of inspiring. They operate entirely on self-funding, offering their services at no cost. Their mission is pivotal: to "clear" areas and confirm or deny the presence of human remains, ensuring safe conditions before heavy equipment begins the arduous task of cleanup. Each member of TN STR-A not only volunteers their time but also bears the financial responsibility for their field equipment and the upkeep of their K-9 partners. Equipped with NASAR SARTECH II certification and ICS training, they are prepared to stand alone for 24 hours, ready to face any challenge that comes their way. The team's recent operation along Interstate 26, near the collapsed bridge by Erwin, TN, led to the discovery of six victims' remains—a poignant reminder of the service they provide and the heavy toll of natural disasters. Your support can make a difference. Consider donating to help TN STR-A continue their vital work. DM for our link and let us know it's purpose. Let's come together to support those who sacrifice so much to keep us safe. #Tennessee #SearchAndRescue #K9Rescue #CommunitySupport #VisionOfHope #DoGoodDoBetter

WINGS CRS - HURRICANE JOHN EMERGENCY FEEDING MISSION On Friday, October 4th, utilizing $2700 in donations received last week, Wings CRS completed its first emergency food and hygiene products deliveries to 85 impoverished families living atop the mountains outside Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico. In the wake of Hurricane John—the second major hurricane to devastate the region within a year—these families had endured ten days without food. The mission provided essential relief to those most affected by the disaster. Our goal is to provide pantries of quality food to 1915 awaiting families in the same area who will not be receiving emergency food assistance from the government or any other aid agency as Wings CRS has been the only humanitarian aid for these communities since Hurricane Otis struck on October 23, 2023. $35 provides a pantry of quality food and hygiene products to 1 family. $105 provides for 3 families. 100% of your gift goes only to the needy families we serve. Contributions can be made via one of these 3 payment methods: Zelle to: [email protected] PayPal: [email protected] By debit or credit card: wings-crs.org/donate #hurricane #hurricanejohn #guerrero #guerreromexico #emergency #emergencyfeeding #hunger #starvation #humanitarian #humanitarianaid #humanitarianrelief #charity #WingsCRS #savemorelives #communityaction #thestormafterthestorm
