The popular social media app just announced it's about to lay off a "large proportion" of its global workforce today. According to inside sources, this big round of job cuts is part of a broader restructuring effort by TikTok 's parent company, ByteDance . They're trying to streamline the business and cut costs in the face of economic uncertainty. It's definitely not great news for the TikTok team. Losing your job is always a stressful and disruptive experience, no matter what industry you're in. The details are still a bit fuzzy, but we know the layoffs will impact TikTok's global operations, from engineering and product roles to content moderation and more. It's a company-wide shake-up, not just isolated to one or two departments. Now, TikTok isn't the only tech company going through tough times right now. Loads of big names in the industry have been laying off staff, from Meta to Amazon to Twitter. It's a sign of the economic climate we're in. For TikTok users, this news probably won't have a major impact on the app itself. The platform and its features should continue running as normal. Yes, I have been laid off at TikTok ! Today, I find myself at a crossroads as I have been impacted by the recent mass #layoffs at TikTok. While this news is certainly challenging, I am choosing to see it as an #opportunity for growth and new beginnings. This morning, I received an email from my department, Monetisation Integrity (MI), informing me of internal changes that have led to my position being affected by the ongoing layoffs at #TikTok. Many of you know me here on LinkedIn because of my referral program. I successfully referred many people to TikTok, with between 4,000 to 5,000 individuals going through the process. Some were hired, some were rejected at the interview stage, and others during resume screening. Today, it's my turn to ?????? ???????? ????????. I was laid off and am now looking for new opportunities. If you are a hiring manager, talent acquisition specialist, recruiter, or know of any opportunities within your team, please share them with me. As someone who came from a small country, located in West Africa “????????????”, with barely any knowledge of English, I learned the language and graduated in 2021 in Malaysia. I never thought in a million years, or dreamt I would have the chance to work in this famous, top tier company like TikTok. Over my 2+ years at TikTok, I gained incredible experience working across various markets such as the EU, LATAM, MENA, EMEA, APAC, and NA. I was exposed to new technologies, tools and workflow and had the privilege of working with amazing colleagues from all over the world, including #Bangladesh, #Indonesia, #Myanmar, #Ecuador, #Thailand, #Australia, #Japan, the #Philippines, #Singapore, #Korea, #Mauritius, #Brazil, #Ireland, the #US, and of course, #Malaysia, but every story or journey has an end, mine ends here with #TikTok. I know this is not the end but potentially the beginning of a great chapter. Events like this can happen to anyone, and it’s important to stay positive and look towards the future.
