This week's commuter conundrum revolves around this little guy. ?? He caught my eye perched on the seat in front of me, on a sunny evening on the return leg from Leeds this time. SO many questions: ??Where did he come from? This train's journey started in Plymouth, but how many other places had the train been to today? Did he even get on the train today? ??Why was he on the train? ??Where was he going? The train's final call was Edinburgh. ??Was she English or Scottish? Or neither? ??Was she going anywhere, or was she now a train spider, riding the rails taking in the fleeting scenery? ??If it bit me would I get superpowers!! ??Was she a town spider or a country spider? ??Did he even know? How much conscious thought do the little creatures have who share the planet with us? ??At one point I did worry thinking is he even still alive, but thankfully he was twiddling his legs now and then so phew!! Like I say, SO many questions, and I wonder how many other little animals jump on the train or inadvertently end up there to start a new adventure!! I'm sure there's some profund analogy in there somewhere about life taking you where you're suppose to be or something. But for now I'm still pretty intrigued about this little spider's back story and what brought him here. When logic isn’t logical…have you ever done this? ???? In a conversation about skydiving yesterday, we were both laughing as we recalled the sheer absurdity of it - voluntarily throwing ourselves out of a plane, facing extreme fear and trepidation, all while imagining certain death. A tad dramatic perhaps, but then again so is that part of our mind that imagines the final outcome! It got me thinking, we willingly put ourselves through fear and discomfort for entertainment. ?? We watch movies over and over we know will make us cry (The Notebook, anyone?). ?? We line up for horror films that send our hearts racing, (not me though!) Yet, when it comes to taking action on the things that truly matter - our dreams, our goals, our future - we freeze. We let fear stop us because we’re afraid of how we might feel if things don’t go as planned. Our ‘logic’ is flawed is so many ways! ?? All feelings states are equal, it’s energy. It’s what we make them mean that distinguishes the experience. What if we could go through a feeling state without making it mean anything about us, our value or our potential? How would that change your experience of…everything! Just a Sunday reflection to ponder ?? #Perception_vs_perspective. Back in primary school, my English teacher asked us, “Who do you want to be when you grow up?” The class gave the usual answers—doctors, pilots, engineers— but I was quick with mine: “I want to be a truck driver. :- Why? Because I imagined freedom as having wheels, a wide-open road, and a lifetime of sunsets to chase. At that age, driving a truck was the ultimate adventure—a passport to endless horizons, far from the confines of desks and formal lines/ loops. Fast forward to today, and here I am—behind the wheel of the bus! Not quite what my younger self envisioned, but hey, the road’s still there, and the wheels are still turning! My office has a view, my “clients” have varying opinions as we go by and we get to experience the same open road, with hundreds if not thousands passengers along for the ride. Turns out, freedom isn’t just about chasing sunsets solo; it’s also about the journey with others. There’s a different kind of freedom in safely guiding Roadway occupants from place to place, even if every trip includes the occasional commuter asleep and drooling on the window. What I once imagined as the freedom of solitude has turned into something more connected, and honestly, more rewarding than I could have imagined back in those school days. Maybe that young kid’s dream was never just about being a just driver; it was about a life on the move, full of stories, connections, and a bit of good-natured unpredictability.
