Falls are the leading cause of death in construction. In 2022 alone, 410 construction-related deaths were caused due to falls by unprotected leading edges, uncovered or unprotected floor openings, and ladders. At Zwick, our employees are trained to recognize and abate these hazards. We have a zero-tolerance policy on fall protection. In fact, we hold frequent inspections of personal fall arrest systems, safety rails, floor coverings, and ladders as part of daily responsibilities to ensure a safe jobsite. #ConstructionSafetyWeek

FALL ARREST “Fall Arrest” is the term used to describe a method of accessing remote and exposed points on a structure (tower, building, oil rig, etc.) using advanced height safety gear, in order to carry out some form of work (painting, cleaning, inspection, installation, repair, etc.), which does not involve abseiling on ropes. Common techniques include clipping up a latticework using double shock-absorbing lanyards and the use of permanent fall arrest systems such as Fallprotec Securope vertical and horizontal lifelines. THE MORE YOU KNOW…?????? Residential roofers may not like using harnesses and other fall protection equipment because they can be inconvenient and add complexity to an already difficult job. However, fall protection is essential for residential roofing because of the many potential hazards, such as uneven surfaces, changes in roof levels, and the weather. OSHA requires fall protection for work on flat or low-sloped roofs, and for work 15 feet or more from the roof edge. Fall protection systems can include guardrails, safety nets, travel restraint systems, personal fall arrest systems, or designated areas. Harnesses are a convenient and safe alternative to guardrail systems, which some roofers don't want to set up. #BrunnoNoBs ????

It's disheartening to see how complacency with Fall Protection Plans can jeopardize both workers' safety and the stability of roofing businesses. A solid Rescue Plan is not just a formality—it's a crucial component of ensuring everyone goes home safely. Taking a few minutes to develop and implement these plans is a small investment compared to the severe consequences of neglect. A fall can shut down a job site, lead to skyrocketing insurance premiums, impact your ability to secure future projects, and result in legal troubles that drain time and resources. Most importantly, it means facing the profound emotional burden of explaining a preventable tragedy to a worker’s family. Prioritizing safety is not just about compliance; it's about protecting lives and maintaining the integrity of your business. Let’s make safety a non-negotiable standard and invest in plans that truly make a difference. #RoofingSafety #FallProtection #WorkplaceSafety #ConstructionIndustry #SafetyFirst

Kudos to Todd Abbott, ASP for highlighting a crucial issue in workplace safety. Complacency with Fall Protection Plans can severely endanger workers and the roofing business. A solid Rescue Plan is essential for ensuring everyone goes home safely. Investing time and money in developing these plans can prevent job site shutdowns, insurance hikes, legal issues, and the emotional toll of a preventable tragedy. Prioritizing safety is more than just compliance—it's about protecting lives and the integrity of your business. We at Raken work with thousands of contractors to do just this. If you've ever wanted to improve safety, maintain compliancy, strengthening safety culture or flat out offer more protection for workers, let's start by having a conversation. Let's make safety non-negotiable. Thanks for the reminder, Todd!

Dealing with heights is a standard aspect of working in the construction industry. However, with greater heights comes a heightened risk of falls. As a result, falls are the leading cause of death in this field, responsible for approximately 38% of all fatalities on a yearly basis. To prevent and avoid these accidents, we have personal fall arrest systems. These mechanisms, such as body harnesses, lanyards and connectors, are essential for safeguarding workers from fall-related injuries and fatalities. Yet, fall arrest systems are not foolproof. A faulty or improperly used harness can be as hazardous as having no protection at all. Knowing how to inspect a fall arrest system and correctly wear a harness can be lifesaving. Here are the steps to properly inspect and wear fall arrest harnesses to ensure your safety while working at heights. Feel free to share with friends and family who you think could benefit from this as well! #ABCST #SafetyTraining #Construction #NYCConstruction #NYC #NYCDOB #SST #BuildSafe #LiveSafe

If your employees are working at height, the correct type of fall prevention and protection is imperative to the well-being of the exposed worker.?Ideally, we eliminate the fall hazard with barricades, guardrails, or covers.? Unfortunately, in construction this often proves to be difficult. One often overlooked challenge when companies select fall arrest devices, is the leading-edge hazard and its effects on deceleration devices (lanyards, self-retracting lifelines, etc.).?When lanyards or even steel cables are exposed to a fall over a leading edge (roof, open hole, steel structure, etc.), they can be cut and ultimately fail causing an employee to continue to fall to a lower level. Thankfully, FallTech has a variety of leading-edge rated products including the industry leading FT-X EDGECORE line of products.?These are personal lifelines made from Kevlar cables that are 40% lighter than traditional 3/16” galvanized cable used by other manufacturers. At first glance it looks like a levitating fire point. It's not..... It's a Howler Scaffpost with wireless alarm and P50 fire extinguisher, mounted on an external scaffold staircase. Lancer Scott Ltd have selected what is undoubtedly the safest, most compact method of providing fire extinguishers and alarms on scaffolding. #firesafety #scaffolding #fireriskassessment #projectmanagement #constructionsafety
