There is currently a major backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. DEI is sometimes unfairly blamed for incidents like a cargo ship hitting Baltimore's Key Bridge or dismissed as meaningless corporate jargon used to justify hiring underrepresented individuals who lack the necessary experience and qualifications for excellence. However, when implemented correctly, DEI unequivocally disproves both of these claims. In my talk this Tuesday, 23rd April at the WomenTech Network Global Conference, I will share some evidence-based, practical DEI practices that can yield powerful results for business growth and maximizing talent potential. I look forward to seeing you there!

*Singing* Last Thursday I went to Netlight, With 1KOMMA5° they gave me insights!?? ??You can have several role models at one moment; each person can have different traits that you want to develop in yourself. ??Don't stay where you feel out of place; life is finite. ??Don't be so busy with building your career that you have no time to build your life. ??Ask direct questions to get to the bottom of the truth, even if those questions are uncomfortable. ??Don't be afraid to be yourself and stand out. Wear that red dress (or pink jeans??) in a room full of black suits. ??Use your differences for your success; don't mute them to fit in. These are my main takeaways from an inspiring workshop about mentoring organized by Netlight and 1KOMMA5°, that I was so happy to be invited to! I loved the enlightening personal stories from the female leaders about their experiences of being a mentor and mentee. Thank you so much for your openness and inspiration, Janine Brügge-Miehle, Sophia R?diger, Johanna Hinz, Jana Brommer! It was also so pleasant to learn even more in personal conversations of speed-dating format from the members of our female leadership community! This opportunity to meet and, dare I say, bond with these exceptional professionals was invaluable for me. It was amazing to meet you, Ivonne Sokoll, Annelie Erichsen, Hannah Mahnke, Christina Ruth, Rebecca Nahrstedt, Johanna Bracke, Irina Serdiukova. That day, my role model list definitely grew longer. I was pleasantly surprised by how many people approached me after I asked a question that was important for me during a panel board. It struck so many interesting discussions! This proves straight away one of the points I noted above. Always ask questions! ?? As usual, if you were there, add me to the contacts and let's meet for a coffee to continue strengthening our connection.?? Thanks again for organizing Rebecca Reimers, Valeria Rosenberg, Inga Kempfert, Tim-Ole Schlüschen and others! #all4labels in da house #all4people #dataengineer #women #female #mentoring #leadership #tech #energy

Inspired by other posts of gratitude, I want to thank Jason Hood for modeling the behavior that is often spoken about in professional development and Women in Technology forums, but not often seen in action. At a recent leadership meeting in our amazing, new Stratascale – An SHI Company Executive Briefing Center (EBC), I was last to enter after breakfast and grabbed the best spot behind the main seating gallery. Wanting to get settled quickly, I didn't scan the room and rushed unpack my laptop, pen, and paper to not disrupt our kick-off speaker. During the first break, Jason came over to me and quietly said "grab a seat up front, there isn't a woman there and there should be". After giving him a "thank you nod", I moved up without hesitation. Did I notice there wasn't a woman up front, once settled? Yep. Then why didn't I take action on my own? It's because of all the thoughts that are often in our heads during these moments. "I don't want to disturb anyone." "I didn't chose to sit there when I entered the room." "I don't sit on the Executive Team." "I don't belong there." Now, I certainly have enough experience to know that I do belong and would be welcomed. My hesitation even with that knowledge illustrates how impossible these thoughts are to shake for women, especially in male dominated industries and spaces. The impact you have as a leader by encouraging others in these moments is profound, no matter how small they may appear. Keep thinking about who else should have a seat at the table and make space for them. PS, the other guys in the pics are pretty awesome too. ?? #gratitude #womenintechnology #teamtoledo

When we kick off Culture Community/Forward Fest event tomorrow, we'll be celebrating an incredible milestone: the EIGHTH anniversary of Culture Community. ?????? Yep, you read that right. Culture Community has been a thing for 8?? whole years. When I began Culture Community, I was in my role at healthfinch. I had just been delegated everything People Ops, & I didn't have any idea what I was doing. ?? So, I did what I usually do when I don't know something. I started reading every article & listening to every podcast ???I could get my hands on about culture. However, I'm a person who's always learned the best through community, so I also looked high & low for a group to join where we could share what's working & not working around culture work. I didn't find a group like that ??, so I chose to create one. Eight years later, here we are! ?? I could go on & on about the many things Culture Community has taught me over the course of nearly 100 presentations, but I'll focus on two big takeaways: 1?? I'm forever in awe of the expertise of the group we've assembled. Michelle Venturini says it best, "Everyone has something to learn & everyone has something to teach" & that's been the unofficial mantra & intention behind Culture Community, for sure! ?? 2?? It's so important to have a community. When you're doing things that are new, that are hard, that are different, that are next-level, you need to have a community to celebrate & challenge you in equal measure. ?? To everyone who has contributed in some way to Culture Community over the past eight years, THANK YOU. ?? Y'all are the real MVPs! ?? Oh, and don't forget to join us tomorrow: https://lnkd.in/gHXDnXZj Tagging a few people I'd especially like to thank: Cara Bechen, Shanna Winnekins, Diana Pastrana, IICDP. #CultureCommunity #CelebrateEverything #CheersToEightYears
