Infinitely irritated. That was the consensus of with a meeting with fellow DEI practitioners and inclusion earlier this week. The topic of discussion was the lack of nuanced understanding and authenticity around the experiential and emotive conversation on race. The issue is this: To be able to streamline diversity, inclusion and racial equity effectively, organisations must adapt an approach that leads to the embedding of workplace culture change. It means working towards the elimination of biases, not compounding and reinforcing them within a newly shaped performative action that aligns closely with the comfortability of a homogeneous leadership. If organisations continue to reply upon a lack of contextual and nuanced understanding of racial inclusion, and fail to properly acknowledge the organisational and experiential responses to ‘DEI done wrong’ then they seek to remove the added value to be found within lived experience. Failure to incorporate the viewpoints and opinions of those who will supposedly benefit from changes in organisational value sets and systems, is negating the value of lived experience. After decades of working within this field, I have come to understand this: Pioneering diversity and inclusion work is only possible when it supports culture and attitudinal change. It is driven by increased knowledge and understanding and the deliberate actions to promote AND achieve active and holistic change. #DEI #DiversityAndInclusion #RaceEquity #Bias #WorkplaceReality

??Is Diversity's Greatest Challenge the Language We Use? Thank you to Elizabeth Shaw for her thought-provoking opinion piece exploring how organisations can rethink the language and framing of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Her insights challenge us to reflect on how we communicate about inclusion, merit, and belonging in a way that builds bridges, not barriers. ???Key Takeaways: ? The "merit myth" fuels much of the backlash, ignoring the biases baked into traditional hiring and promotion practices. ? Effective DEI strategies enhance merit by challenging assumptions, broadening the talent pool, and assessing potential alongside experience. ? Miscommunication is a major obstacle—rebranding DEI with language that fosters belonging, respect, and safety can help build broader support. ? Leadership matters: leaders must confront the backlash head-on, linking DEI to business outcomes and engaging with its complexities. ??POV: As we look to the future, it’s clear that how we frame DEI can unlock its true potential. By shifting the narrative from "fixing inequity for some" to "building better outcomes for all," we can foster broader support and dismantle resistance. This is also an opportunity to address emerging challenges, such as AI bias, intersectionality, and creating belonging in a hybrid workforce. Leaders must step up, linking inclusion directly to innovation and business growth, ensuring DEI remains a cornerstone of a thriving workplace. ?? What do you think—how can we reimagine inclusion for the modern era? #levyl #DEI #diversity #equity #inclusion #belonging

Why Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) matters now more than ever… ? In today’s interconnected world, diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just buzzwords—they are essential pillars for innovation, collaboration, and growth. ? Diversity brings varied perspectives, experiences, and ideas to the table, driving creativity and better decision-making. When teams reflect the rich tapestry of the world around us, they create solutions that resonate more broadly. ? Equity ensures that everyone has access to the same opportunities, addressing systemic barriers and leveling the playing field. It’s not about giving everyone the same thing but rather what they need to succeed. ? Inclusion fosters a sense of belonging, where every voice feels heard, valued, and empowered to contribute. When people feel seen and respected, they bring their full selves to work—and that’s where the magic happens. ? Organizations that embrace DEI are not only building stronger teams but are also shaping a better future for everyone. It’s not just good for business—it’s the right thing to do. Remember DEI is not about hiring someone just because they are in a protected class. In hiring its aim is to ensure qualified candidates that are from minority or underrepresented groups are considered. We as a society have not achieved egalitarianism and likely never will do we need metrics and KPI’s in DEl to ensure the playing field is more leveled. ? Let’s continue the conversation: How does your organization foster diversity, equity, and inclusion? #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Leadership #Growth

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) will always be essential. As our workplaces, communities, and the world around us continue to evolve, DEI is not just a trend or a checkbox—it’s a continuous commitment to creating environments where every individual feels valued, heard, and empowered. We know that diverse teams drive innovation, that inclusive cultures foster collaboration, and that equity ensures everyone has access to the same opportunities to thrive. But these principles extend beyond business benefits—they reflect our shared humanity. It’s important to recognize that DEI work isn’t a one-time effort, but an ongoing journey that requires consistent action, reflection, and growth. It’s about challenging our biases, expanding our perspectives, and embracing differences. Let’s remember: when we uplift others, we lift ourselves too. #DEI #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Leadership #Belonging #WorkplaceCulture
