"Figure out what you're driven by… it's like something that was already there when you were very young. That's your factory setting." -—Tilda Swinton Leadership doesn’t follow a one-size-fits-all formula; it's personal. Our leadership finds its strength when we understand and embrace who we truly are. Our cofounder Christel van der Boom explores how reconnecting with the core truths we’ve carried since childhood can support our ability to lead authentically. Reconnecting with our "factory settings" isn’t always simple. It takes courage to detach from expectations, turn down the noise and follow our own path. But in that process of self-discovery, the power and clarity of our leadership begin to take shape. These personal reflections may inspire you to reflect on your own journey. #LeadershipDevelopment #AuthenticLeadership #PersonalGrowth

Quote of the day The quote of Lew Nikolajewitsch Tolstoi highlights a common human tendency to focus on external change while neglecting personal transformation. It underscores the ease of blaming external circumstances over accepting personal responsibility and the impact individual change can have on society. True change requires deep self-awareness, honesty, and willingness to confront uncomfortable truths, often making it harder than advocating for broader societal shifts. This introspective focus on self-change, as suggested by the quote, is essential for effective advocacy and leadership, embodying a shift that is not just morally desirable but practically necessary for lasting and meaningful impact on the world. ? #QuoteOfTheDay #Motivation #ReadyForChange

Listening to the radio this morning, nursing a coffee that I still can’t taste (damn Covid) they announced Oxfords children’s word of the year “kindness”. 6000 children across the UK were asked for their opinions, with many citing kindness due to mental health, global violence and conflicts. A stark reminder of how tuned in children are to current affairs! It got me thinking about kindness in the workplace and more specifically within leadership. I think its possibly the most underrated quality in a leader. We often focus on someone’s ability to be direct, to challenge, to deliver, to be assertive, of course all these qualities can and do have their place but kindness, in my view, is often universally good and powerful for teams. Kindness, such as having a warm demeanor, showing an interest in individuals and being patient with their feedback builds trust quickly, resulting in strong and often long-lasting connections. It is this trust and connection that provides a leader with influence and insights into what is really going on with an individual and a team. People often confuse kindness with weakness - it couldn’t be further from the truth. Being kind often means being vulnerable yourself and there could be nothing stronger than this. Even in the most difficult moments of leadership; exit conversations, relationship breakdowns, poor performance – kindness can be powerful, it leads you to be clear but also to consider your words and deliver the message in the kindest way. I hope even in what feels like a tough world right now, we all feel empowered to be kind, to celebrate our vulnerability and to offer patience and compassion to those we don’t immediately understand. *accompanied by a picture of my dogs - some of the kindest beings #leadership #Leadingwithkindness #development

As we reflect on today’s gospel, we witness a beautiful moment of connection and affirmation between Mary and Elizabeth. It reminds us of the power of relationships and the importance of supporting one another in our journeys. In the professional world, we often find ourselves racing against time, much like Mary’s urgent journey to visit Elizabeth. But what if we took a moment to appreciate the connections we have around us? Just as Elizabeth recognized the significance of Mary's visit, we too should seek to recognize and celebrate the contributions of our colleagues and peers. By fostering an environment of gratitude and recognition, we can uplift one another, creating a workplace that thrives on collaboration and support. Jesus exemplified servant leadership, prioritizing the needs of others and leading with humility. In our careers, we can echo this by being leaders who listen actively, mentor generously, and inspire those around us. Have you taken the time to reach out to someone who may need encouragement, just as Mary did for Elizabeth? In the spirit of today's gospel, let’s commit to being the voice that uplifts others, to creating spaces where everyone feels valued, and to recognizing the 'infant' joy in our teams when we celebrate successes together. Remember, every small act of kindness can create ripples of positivity in our professional lives. Let’s be the gazelles that leap into action, making our workplaces more vibrant and fulfilling for everyone. #Leadership #ProfessionalGrowth #Collaboration Download Jesus Chat App: iOS: https://lnkd.in/dDGjHmxe Android: https://lnkd.in/dpspaMh5

Many of my clients and colleagues share a mission to restore dignity in the world.?? And while we like to think of restoring dignity to others, how often do we show up as examples of the very dignity we seek to restore??? Leaders truly answering their calling are asked to put themselves first—not from a place of ego, but from deep honoring...?? Honoring the calling they hear, the truth they know they are here to express, and their natural genius and design (the vehicles for their calling).?? Most of all, it requires honoring the knowing that they are here to do the work they’re meant to do, regardless of anyone’s opinion, approval, or lack thereof.?? This honor cuts through the noise and steers them to create and deliver what they’re meant to contribute to the world.?? Remember the movie Billy Elliot? People fell in love with it (especially my partner, Pete). Why? Because we saw a young boy honoring his conviction, compelling everyone around him to join him… against all odds. Dignity can’t be bestowed—it must be claimed.?? When we stay true to ourselves, our calling, and our convictions, something amazing happens:?? We restore our own dignity.?? That allows us to walk through the world with dignity, showing others what it looks like and encouraging them to live with dignity, too. And when you walk with dignity...?? People take notice!?? Dignity captivates. It has an alluring beauty and fierceness that commands attention. When people are around someone walking with dignity, they attend to your message and leadership. You become a beacon others want to follow.?? The great acting coach, Sam Christensen, said, "Charisma is public self-acceptance." That’s what creates someone’s "it" factor. Remember, your dignity grows with every act of self-honoring, every intuitive nudge you follow, and every truth you express. No matter where you are in your journey, you can start building your dignity now.?? The more it grows, the more people will follow and want to go where you are meant to lead. Big Love,? Back in the day, when I was a doormat…that is to say, when I diminished myself by minimizing my needs, silencing my voice, and numbing my feelings…I was not a very nice person. I thought I was being nice because I was caretaking everyone, pleasing others and performing to all kinds of heights. But in truth, because I was not able to take care of my own needs and honor my own ambitions, then I was not able to be truly honoring of others. There is a reason it is called ‘care-taking’––because when we care-take others, we literally take from them. We take their dignity and their power. We make them small and rob them of the opportunity to take care of themselves. In truth, we do it because we cannot bear the discomfort of their journey––whatever it is. Robustly showing up for ourselves reveals a wonderful byproduct: meaningfully showing up for others. We get to be authentic and real, we get to be loved for who we are, we get to be accountable, and that feels good. At the same time, we are afforded the privilege of supporting others to do the same. You cannot believe the beautiful world that awaits you on the other side of healthy self-entitlement and self-agency. Do you feel selfish or unkind when you set boundaries? Do you tend to bend until you break and lash out? Are you a coach who works with people dealing with these issues? My EQUUS Faculty member Adam Ramcharan and I are holding a conversation about this topic on Thursday and we'd love to see you there link to join: https://lnkd.in/gtf_M-T4 We're also running a course on this topic beginning September 5th.
