Remember what came before lithium-ion batteries? ?? While electric cars have been around for nearly 200 years, they weren't always powered by the lithium-ion batteries we know today. Before this, there were several other battery types that paved the way for today's electric vehicles. As one of the earliest examples of electric vehicles, Gustave Trouvé's tricycle from 1879 was powered by lead-acid batteries. These batteries were a technological breakthrough at the time, enabling a range of 14-16 km and a top speed of 12 km/h. However, battery technology stagnated. The next significant breakthrough came In the 1910s in the shape of nickel-iron batteries. These laid the foundation for the development of even more advanced battery types in the later decades of the 20th century. It's exciting to see how the battery technology for electric vehicles has evolved to the lithium-ion batteries that are used today. And we are not slowing down. New technologies like solid-state batteries are on the horizon, promising even greater efficiency and safety for the future.
