In my experience, CGI is a term that almost no one who actually creates the visuals, uses. Talented VFX and animation artists definitely use computer technology to create storytelling elements, but it's just another tool, like models, armatures, pencils and paper and paint have been in the past. It would be like referring to music as Computer Generated Music. It's simply music.
