I'm so thankful to have Boston Liberation Health present the Health Liberation Model to my undergrad social work students who are taking Diversity, Racism, Oppression, and Privilege (DROP) course this semester. This is such a powerful tool for social workers to help their clients realize and name the systems of oppression they are continuing to navigate and how it can help shift them towards action and advocacy https://lnkd.in/e3uU6Fsp

Building a Healthier Green County! Yesterday, I had the privilege of joining Green County community leaders, concerned citizens, dedicated professionals, and LAUNCH students at Blackhawk Technical College’s Monroe Campus for a meeting of the Green County Healthy Communities Coalition. Together, we’re in the final stages of developing the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), which will serve as a blueprint for the coalition's collaborative action over the next three years. After engaging in networking and a review of the CHIP process, we split into two focus groups: Housing and Mental Health. These areas are the two foundational priorities identified during the 2024 Community Health Assessment. Although each topic is critical, my focus through the coalition remains on expanding access to affordable, safe housing for all Green County residents. This ongoing issue is one that I hear about frequently through the work our staff does directly with individuals in need. Housing is not just a basic need—it’s a cornerstone of stability, opportunity, and health. Ensuring that our community members have safe places to live is essential to creating lasting, positive change. We have one final meeting in February to refine the objectives and strategies for both priority areas before the CHIP can be finalized. I’m excited about the collective impact we’ll have as we transition towards implementation. Together, we’re building a stronger, healthier Green County! #StrategicImpact #HousingForAll #MentalHealthMatters #GreenCounty #PublicHealth #HumanServices

In public health people refer to the social determinants of health when considering the multiple factors that impact overall health. Likewise, in education, children are unable to achieve their full academic and social potential unless their overall state of well-being is taken into account including: ??Food ??Transportation ??Before & afterschool care ??Social-emotional health Community schools, a concept that started in 1973 when the Black Panthers founded the first Community School in Oakland, have been revitalized and are spreading across the United States. Community schools partner with local organizations who provide mental health support, food, academic help and after-school programs, among other resources. The selection of the most appropriate services is community-led with students, staff and caregivers providing input. While children benefit immensely, so do their caregivers. It is said that it takes a village to raise a child and community schools create that community of support. This week I'll be answering the question: How do community schools support students and caregivers? I'd love to hear what you think! Please tag an expert or comment. No more silos, just solutions! | Interdisciplinary outcomes uniting healthcare and wellness practices ??Follow our publication: https://lnkd.in/geruvmCj #HLWFAlliance #HLWFExpert #HLWF

Excited to share highlights from the Digital Opportinities Cohort, supported by Dogwood Health Trust — This group of leaders across Western North Carolina is coming together to tackle digital inequities head-on. Through shared learning and diverse perspectives from various sectors, we are working to expand digital opportunities in our communities, strengthen personal leadership skills and foster cross-sector collaboration to create a more connected, equitable region. Marginalized populations — Those living in rural areas, older adults, people with disabilities, language barriers and lower income families are often left out, overlooked, or under resourced in broadband access. Where digital inequities grow, so do other inequities. Digital connections are lifelines to education, employment, housing, healthcare and staying connected to family and friends. With the support of Dogwood Health Trust, we are shaping a future where everyone has access to the tools and opportunities they need to thrive in our modern digital world. #DO #Collaboration #WNC #CIOLeadership #HCC Haywood Community College Dogwood Health Trust
