This is me at my awesome hairdressers, The Hairy Cactus Parlour in Bournemouth. Bhavani (pictured right) has been my hairdresser for nearly 10 years, and she is honestly the best. Occasionally when she has been busy, I’ve also seen Wendy (pictured left) and between them they have created a welcoming, inclusive and accessible space. So welcoming, that sometimes when we’ve finished chatting, I almost forget to get my hair cut. When I say accessible, I don’t necessarily mean in the traditional sense of the word. In fact, there are stairs at their current location which would mean that it is inaccessible to some. But I also know that they make adjustments wherever they can and are very respectful and considerate of individuals different needs. What I love more than anything is that I feel I can completely be myself when I visit The Hairy Cactus Parlour. They fit with my values in so many ways, and I always come away feeling great (and also with great hair!) They are eco-conscious with all their products being organic and plant based. The space is full of books and plants, and they have the best security guard in the form of Perry, the one eyed frug (french bulldog and pug combination!) Tomorrow, we go to the polls, and we have a choice. We can choose between exclusive and unwelcoming, or we can choose those who want to change for the better creating welcoming, inclusive, and accessible spaces. Those who understand and embrace differences, and advocate for a society that is active, vibrant, and diverse. Or those that do not appreciate differences being fearful whilst spreading fear. Personally, I love change and am crossing my fingers that we will see a change for the better and a government that does more to create welcoming, inclusive and accessible spaces. #voteforchange #inclusive #accessible
