Today, I want to take a moment to reflect on the profound bravery and leadership shown by Fred Guttenberg and the legacy of his daughter, Jaime. Jaime was tragically taken in the Parkland school shooting, but her memory lives on through her father’s tireless advocacy for gun safety-which he is stepping back from finally. Fred embodies what I believe to be true leadership — driven by purpose, unyielding in the face of adversity, and committed to positive change. His journey from grief to action is a testament to the power of bravery in leadership. It takes courage not only to stand up for what you believe but to do so when it’s rooted in deeply personal tragedy. Fred’s advocacy reminds us that true leaders take on challenges far beyond themselves. They move forward not just to protect their own interests, but for the greater good. He’s faced unimaginable loss, yet continues to lead with both vulnerability and strength, knowing the importance of what he’s fighting for. Leadership isn’t always about titles or roles; sometimes, it’s simply the bravery to persist, to be a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves, and to channel pain into purpose. Fred Guttenberg’s journey is a lesson for all of us in turning hardship into hope. Let’s honor those like Fred who lead through bravery, and remember that true leadership is about making a lasting impact that goes beyond ourselves.
