A Tale of Two Stories: One story, from the NYT, immaculately researched, full of context and nuance, clearly aiming to present readers with the full, sometimes messy picture, and give them the facts they need to understand the truth of the situation. Another story, from the BBC, full of bits and pieces taken out of context to drive a specific message, completely lacking in vital information viewers need to understand the entire picture. Should we use the fact that there are problems with a story as a reason to give up on climate journalism? Of course not! Just like we shouldn't use the fact that there are problems with individual carbon projects as a reason to give up on the VCM! All of us - including the press - are figuring this out together, and I believe we are all working in good faith to advance climate action. Sometimes we all make mistakes. We have to preserve the ability for us to learn, to admit we got things wrong, and to do better.
