LAYERZERO AIRDROP RECIPIENTS MADE TO DONATE IN ORDER TO CLAIM $ZRO TOKENS - As claims opened for LayerZero Labs’ hotly anticipated $ZRO token airdrop, the project introduced a new mechanism that forces users to donate small sums of crypto in order to claim their tokens. - The mechanism is dubbed ‘Proof-of-Donation’ and requires airdrop recipients to donate $0.10 in $USDT, $USDC or $ETH in order to claim. While the sum seems small, it quickly racks up for recipients with multiple airdrop-eligible wallets. - The revenue will go directly to ProtocolGuild?- a “collective funding mechanism” for #Ethereum researchers. - The scheme is expected to yield $18.5 million for Protocol Guild, and LayerZero will match the forced-donations up to a value of $10 million. “By donating to Protocol Guild, eligible recipients show long-term alignment with the LayerZero protocol and a commitment to the future of crypto.” - The mechanism, however, has not been well received by all crypto community members. “Actually so fkn dumb… $131 donation to claim an airdrop that is literally based on the fees I already paid to YOUR PROTOCOL” ~ BlurCrypto - Some have taken particular issue with the project’s decision to announce PoD just a few minutes before $ZRO claims went live. “you've got to be f****** kidding me… send this shit to ZRO” ~ basedkarbon
