In June 2022, we co-developed and facilitated the Cultural Policy Action Lab (CPAL), an eight-part national learning series and community of practice for arts and culture leaders in the public sector. Created for and with Grantmakers in the Arts (GIA) It serves to expand knowledge and applied practice in advancing racial justice through arts and culture policy transformation. The series examines common policy frameworks deployed in the public sector such as grantmaking, public art, placemaking, and arts education, and imagines how we might reshape the underlying policies and policy application for more just outcomes for communities. This led to a cultural policy track at the 2024 GIA conference, and the establishment of a cultural policy committee in 2025. https://lnkd.in/de-wKixa

Cross-Sector Strategies for Creative Rural Development spotlights strategies at state arts agencies and regional arts organizations with innovative partnerships developing and strengthening rural places through the arts. LCEPs MATTER: The Arts Council are committed to continuing their work with LCEPs as part of their Delivery Plan. LCEPs will play an important role in strengthening a place-based approach and supporting the levelling up of communities most in need.

Flushing Town Hall, with support from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), has launched an exciting initiative: The Queens Cultural Mapping Project. This endeavor aims to document and celebrate the rich artistic landscape of Queens. Since May 2024, our Arts Services Team has been connecting with the community, conducting in-depth interviews with 75 arts and cultural organizations across the borough. These conversations are uncovering valuable insights into the challenges and needs faced by artists and cultural institutions in Queens. Georgia State University Library Special Collections and Archives has been awarded a Georgia Humanities Grant of $2,100 to fund the Lonnie King, Jr. Traveling Exhibition, an initiative that highlights the legacy of civil rights leader Lonnie King, Jr. This grant will fund the creation and display of the exhibition, which will open at the Auburn Avenue Research Library on African American Culture and History and travel around the state of Georgia through the Georgia Public Library Service's strategic partnership program. **NEW REPORT** The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA) serves on the Grantmakers in the Arts board and is introducing this report that is the culmination of more than 18 months of dialogue with Indigenous artists, elders, culture bearers, tribal liaisons, leaders of Native organizations, and individuals working inside the tribal relations offices of U.S. state and federal government agencies. All artists face challenges, but Indigenous artists face extra hurdles from the effects of fraud and cultural appropriation. Support to Native organizations and artists represents only about 0.4% of state arts agency grant funding, and many tribes are not aware that state arts agencies even exist.
