The Oldest Whisky in the World: A Remarkable Discovery Several bottles of whisky, believed to be the oldest in the world, have recently been unearthed in the historic Blair Castle in Scotland. Dating back to 1833, the same batch was once enjoyed by Queen Victoria herself during her stay at the castle in 1844. The discovery has attracted the attention of collectors, with bids already reaching thousands of pounds for each bottle. The cache of 24 dusty bottles, out of a total of around 40, was found hidden behind a cellar door in the 750-year-old Blair Castle in Perthshire. The ancestral home of the Dukes of Atholl, the castle now plans to exhibit the remaining bottles as part of the Blair Castle visitor experience. Whisky Auctioneer, based in Perth, is hosting the online sale, which is expected to fetch a total of over ￡240,000. According to a plaque found with the stash, the whisky was distilled in 1833 and matured for eight years before being bottled. This makes it the oldest vintage in existence.
