We will always remember. We remember the day that changed the world. We remember those that were lost. We remember the survivors, like our friend Kayla Bergeron who escaped the 68th floor of the North Tower of the World Trade Center. We remember the pain and the sacrifice. We remember the collective trauma and the fear. But we also remember the strength. We remember the unbreakable spirit and the resiliency. We remember how we came together as Americans in mourning, in support of one another, and then how we rose together, united.

It was a pleasure spending time in conversation with Megan Corcoran of the Wagtail Institute, talking about trauma, safety, extremism, and our relationship with hope and healing. We covered a lot of ground, including some hefty issues such as: ?? "When nothing about your context is salutogenic, what is the point of healing work?" ??"Some people need 'survival mode' to get through the day...and we focus so much on feeling safe in the body, but ultimately folks are living in situations where they need their 'survival mode'." ??"There is a major difference in the way the law and society treat the connection between trauma and intimate partner violence versus possible connections between trauma and radicalization" ?? "I might go through climate change, but I might be supported by a government for incurred losses, but in the case of genocide, every domain of safety is ripped away, and there is no accountability." Have a listen here to the full conversation here.

My People I am writing to address some of the most disturbing issues that plague our community—the level of ignorance and hatred among us is truly heartbreaking. It is distressing to acknowledge that we have become our own worst nightmare. We cannot continue to blame external communities for our downfall when we are the architects of our own destruction. Self-hatred is rampant, and it impedes our progress as a collective. The inability to work together in solidarity is a significant barrier to our advancement. We must confront the reality that we are our own problem. The excuse that “this is just how it is” only perpetuates the cycle of mental health issues and trauma that ravage our community. The legacy of slave mentality continues to tear us apart, and it is high time we address it. Despite these challenges, I remain committed to the fight for our liberation. However, it is increasingly difficult to witness the self-inflicted harm we continue to impose on our community. Whether in public or behind closed doors in corporate settings, our actions are dragging us down. We must look in the mirror and ask ourselves what we are going to do to change this narrative. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired. It is time for us to confront the hatred and ignorance within us and start working towards a future where we uplift rather than tear each other down. LEST WE FORGET? I am (so far as other constraints permit) making a daily post of process and other safety events which have happened on that day in previous years.??I will intersperse these with mental health and safety incidents, since my twin passions are process safety and mental health and safety.? ? This is to promote thinking and is based on the theory that, by and large, we don't invent new ways of killing people: we fail to adequately learn from the mistakes of the past. On this day (28th?April) in 1944, the Operation Tiger disaster occurred. https://lnkd.in/eanSSJjy What can your organisation learn from this? Have you read my books “HAZOP Questions”, “HAZID Questions” and “Let’s talk about mental health and safety”?

About 3 months ago, I retreated to the mountains to do a lot of inner work and healing in solitude. In this article I share some of the thoughts I had during that time about the masks that we wear, our trauma ages, and the things we do to protect ourselves that keep us from having real, genuine connections with others. If that describes you, here's what you can do to build genuine bonds and stronger connections with other people to build your personal tribe and community and be your authentic self: Read the full article here: ?? https://lnkd.in/e2G8DTVn

Systems of oppression are designed to exhaust us. To distract us. To make us believe that we are sepearate, alone. To make us 'give up.' Well, we will not give up. We will not be broken. This Thursday, February 1, we will double down on our commitment to build and maintain power and presence in service of collective healing, freedom and action. We'll explore how systemic oppression can pull us out of connection and presence, and can impact our ability to keep showing up. We'll practice reconnecting with our deepest commitments for the work, and our deepest, unshakable capacity for radical transformation. In community. Together. To join us, register here: https://lnkd.in/dpw5ECnk

After this #SaturdayMentalHealth and also the Suicide Awareness Summit - Thanks Crystal Behe for giving me the stage - I think it's more than necessary to normalize it's OK to not feel good AND to be in spaces where we can express that - and not numb our emotions. Because most of the humans that decided... and still decide... - and will decide in the future - to take their lives are not doing that to shame the people they leave behind, but because they cannot see doors of possibilities of a future where they are in. And although it's not in God's plan to see someone taking their lives - But who knows? Are we thinking at God's place and judge on His behalf? - There's a lot of work that religions, and our society in general - have still to do to place more humanity in the center. The only sin I see is to not put God - Universe - Mother Earth ... you name it - in the center of our hearts. 9 months ago, almost day by day, was aware about this movie and it changed my life : When Marnie Was there. More than 30 years ago, was seeing the movie Dead Poet Society - with spikes in my heart watching the suicide scene - and it changed my life. Near 10 years and one month ago, acknowledging Robin Williams' suicide, and it changed my life. And This September, 26 years ago, my cousin Jer?me took his life, and it changed my life, forever. But guess what. I still wonder why I'm still alive after all I've been through. I could have been another number in those statistics. What these statistics fail to say is that it is far from being 'numberized'. These are human beings, that found no other alternatives than to do this act of ending their lives. We need to STOP society to imprint the shame, the guilt, the 'put this into the carpet and move on'. Because if we don't talk about this, the story will repeat, causing harm again... and again... We need more spaces to be able to express our emotions and that we don't feel OK. If some human beings are not finding these spaces, either they will harm others, or they will harm themselves. This post in memory for Jér?me, for Jess, for Robin and everyone who took their lives or those that are impacted around. If there's at least ONE, just ONE person that my actions are helping to not end their life, then I will consider my mission accomplished. I no longer care about these bad voices outside... AND INSIDE, that try to put me down. As long as I breathe, I'll do the best I can to love myself and to elevate this world. https://lnkd.in/d5jUdAC8

Amidst the darkness of senseless killings, abuse and so much more it’s crucial to acknowledge the weight of these injustices and the pain they inflict on individuals and communities. Each tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for change and the ongoing fight for justice. It’s in these moments of solidarity, resilience, and compassion that we find the strength to endure and the courage to continue the fight for a better world. While we navigate this turbulent sea of turmoil, it’s vital to prioritize self-care and mental well-being. Amidst the chaos, remember to nurture your soul with moments of peace, kindness, and self-love. Whether it’s through meditation, connecting with loved ones, or engaging in activities that bring you joy, find solace in the midst of adversity. Together, let us stand in solidarity against injustice, advocating for change, and lifting each other up in moments of darkness. For it’s in our collective resilience, empathy, and determination that we find the power to create a brighter tomorrow. Let’s hold onto HOPE, let’s take care of ourselves, and let’s continue to fight for a world where every life is valued and every voice is heard. #JusticeForAll #SelfCareInSolidarity
