For people of color, it can feel like their intelligence is being judged based on stereotypes. These remarks are examples of racial ???????????????????????????????? that make the workplace uncomfortable. Here are three tips for leaders looking to address this issue and support their team: 1. ???????????? ???????????? When a team member says they're hurt by a comment, hear them out. Don't brush it off—acknowledge their feelings. This kind of support can go a long way in healing. 2. ?????????? ?????? ???????? Hold straightforward workshops on racial trauma and microaggressions. Help everyone understand what these are and why they hurt, so they can learn to avoid them. 3. ?????????? ?? ???????????????? ?????????? Make your team a place where everyone feels like they belong. Regularly bring people together to celebrate different cultures and share personal stories. Promote honest talks about race and inclusivity. As a leader, addressing racial microaggressions isn't just about creating a better workplace—it's about preventing and healing racial trauma, ensuring everyone feels valued and respected.

Challenges confront leaders daily. Some are tougher than others. During hard times, empathy and respect can be lifelines. As we each navigate the complexities of our journeys, let's remember to offer understanding and kindness to ourselves and others. The month of May brought us some amazing insight from so many during Behavioral Health Awareness Month. Let's continue into this year with the commitment to learn, grow, and cultivate empathy as a cornerstone of support; fostering environments where your team feels valued and understood. The things we have been through are part of our story. Embrace them and choose to grow daily.

Such a joy and honour to moderate the fireside chat today with Singapore’s favourite Professor Tommy Koh, for a special CEO dialogue with CEOs and C-suites of listed companies. The delightful luncheon session was co-organised by WorkWell Leaders and SGListCos. He is truly a national treasure, great story telling skills and an abundance of insights and wisdom. The leaders were more than engaged and took away valuable leadership lessons, including life lessons. “Best 2 hours spent”, “Leaders as unifiers”, “Look up and down, take care of people”, “Be respectful”. Couldn’t ask for a better person to share about leading and adapting to change to take better care of people. He’s often times the first voice to champion change in issues from social inclusion to environmental conservation to moral concerns. Only Tommy Koh could issue a ‘scolding’ to a room full of CEOs and leaders for not doing better for the employees in wellbeing, and everyone pretty much agrees with him, nodding. Some things just make sense. If those most sensitive to toxins in the air can breathe freely, the air is safe for all. If work environment is just, transparent, flexible enough that those dealing with additional stressors in life can navigate it, the environment is supportive for all. I came across this discussion between Mel Robbins and Gabor Mate, in which he states that the reason why 80% of those that suffer from autoimmune diseases (MS, Chronic Fatigue,Ulcerative Colitis to name just a few), are women. Gabor Mate’s believes this is because women: 1) tend to put others emotional needs ahead of their own, and ignore their own 2) identify with duty, role and responsibility ahead of needs of their own 3) are nice. And therefore repress their healthy anger 4) believe they’re responsible for how others feel 5) believe they must not disappoint anyone This is why Self-Care is a must, not a nice to have. In December I’m running a 2 day workshop; Leadership through Self-Care. I believe it’s important for women in senior positions to work and lead from Self-Care not Sacrifice. In our 2 days together we will look at our relationship to Self-Care and how that evolved over our individual biographies. We will see how our unique Strengths can both support and sometimes lead us astray. We will work through 5 simple organising principles that organisations can pay attention to that embed Self-Care into the culture.
