The greatest investor in Wall St and math wizard, Jim Simon’s has passed away. His track record average of 66% return/yr over 30-years blows away returns by Buffet, Soros, Ichan. Even during the 2008 financial crises his fund made an 82% return. To put it into perspective if you invested $100. into Jim Simon’s fund in 1988 it would be worth $$400 Million today. #investing #stocks

Successful long term investing is simple, but behaviorally difficult. It doesn't have to be complicated, and if you're disciplined, it isn't. Attempts at market timing and predicting interest rate movements will decrease your long term returns. You will learn this if you're around long enough and you are paying attention. It is a longer and harder lesson for those unfortunate enough to have early success with that approach. Focus on your goals, choose an allocation that is likely to get you to those goals, populate that allocation with mutual funds and/or ETFs that follow the proven science of investing, and are low cost. Then, be disciplined and patient, while tuning out all the noise.

There is nothing wrong with being an active investor, if you do it yourself. Buffett does it himself. He doesn't delegate all his investment decisions to others. After all, it's his job to allocate capital. However, if you do not have the time, energy, or knowledge...then as Buffett and Graham confirm...index. If you employ a financial adviser, wealth manager, fund manager...in other words, someone else to do the work for you, and they allocate to active funds. It's called SnakeOil. You need to re-think how you allocate your capital.

For many active investors, Warren Buffett and his mentor Benjamin Graham are role models. Yet they tend to overlook the fact that Buffett has consistently said that the vast majority of investors are better off indexing. What is less well-known is that, by the end of his life, Graham had reached the same conclusion. In an interview six months before he died, Graham explained that outperforming through either stock selection or market timing was extremely difficult. “If I have noticed anything over these 60 years on Wall Street,” he said, “it is that people do not succeed in forecasting what's going to happen to the stock market.” For Graham, investors basically need two things —?1. a financial plan, and 2. behavioural discipline. ”The best way to measure your investing success,” he explained in his book The Intelligent Investor, “is not by whether you’re beating the market but by whether you’ve put in place a financial plan and a behavioural discipline that are likely to get you where you want to go.” It really is as simple as that ??
