How do you think about upper- vs. lower-funnel marketing? Many marketers believe that investing only in lower-funnel direct response marketing yields the highest ROI. On the other hand, some marketers prefer upper-funnel brand building and don't fully buy into lower-funnel performance marketing. While each category is different and some decisions are quicker and rely less on brand recognition, there's no doubt they work together. If you don't have both a brand recognition campaign and a direct response campaign, you are leaving money on the table. Think about it from your perspective. If you do a search for a "restaurant near me," you're likely to pick the one whose commercials made you hungry. Or, if you search for "window repair near me," you'll choose the brand whose ad you've seen and like. Similarly, if you search for "running shoes," you'll pick the brand with good reviews, is on many lists, and also one you've seen in an ad you like. Focusing solely on the lower funnel only gets you so far. Branding alone only gets you so far. How do you think about this? #advertising #marketing

For the clients I work with, I have been a big proponent of the founder-led marketing motion. And I see a lot of my LI network also leading the charge on the same - with Adam Robinson for RB2B, and Adam Holmgren for Fibbler, and Jason Fried for 37signals.
