Whether it's through mentorship, collaboration, or shared learning, our goal is to ensure every conversation brings value and sparks transformation. This year, let’s challenge ourselves: ?? Are we empowering each other through our words? ?? Are we nurturing growth in our communities and businesses? ?? Are we creating spaces for dialogue that builds legacies? Join the movement. There would be no Crown & Quill Collective without the inspiration of the 55 incredible Black women and men who trusted me as their writing coach beginning a few months ago. These visionaries are not just my clients—they are my partners in creativity, resilience, and achievement. As they craft the books of their dreams, they have shown me what is possible when we lean into community and collaboration. Over the next year, these 55 LIFETIME members of the Crown & Quill Collective will continue to grow and thrive together. Their progress has been nothing short of transformative. In community with one another, they’ve celebrated wins, overcome challenges, and built connections that are as powerful as the stories they’re writing. Watching them uplift each other while accelerating their own goals is what inspired me to create the Collective. I believe that kind of support, nurturing, and success should be available to everyone. That’s why the Crown & Quill Collective exists—to amplify the voices, talents, and dreams of Black professionals and entrepreneurs through co-creation, collaboration, and empowerment. Together, we are redefining success and making space for Black excellence. To my 55 founding inspirations: Thank you for being the spark that lit this vision. To everyone else who dreams of thriving in community—I hope you’ll join us. Let’s build, thrive, and shine together. If you’re interested in a private, PAID, exclusive, invitation-only community for Black professionals comment “I want in” or send me a DM for an application. ?? Today, our Black Professional BRG at NFP hosted an incredible Kwanzaa program featuring an interactive presentation by the unapologetically inclusive Tracy Brown. Her core message left a lasting impact: #Diversity is an always-present resource that, when intentionally cultivated, can drive meaningful progress and achieve organizational goals. ? ?? We explored why it’s essential for our Black Professional BRG to hold conversations like this. Learning about #Kwanzaa goes beyond tradition—it helps us better understand and connect with our coworkers, fostering a #culture of #belonging that directly impacts business outcomes. ? Why does it matter? ?? Conversations like these create connection points with colleagues, helping us build relationships that lead to better collaboration and results. ? ?? This dialogue echoes the intent of #NFP’s mission: to ensure everyone feels seen, valued, and included. ? ?? Thank you to everyone who joined us, and a special thanks to Tracy Brown her insight, wisdom, and guidance. Together, we are taking intentional steps toward building an inclusive culture that drives unity and progress. ? ?? The Power of Kujichagulia: Self-Determination in Black Professional Excellence Today, I’m reflecting on Kujichagulia, the second principle of Kwanzaa, which means self-determination. It’s a powerful reminder for us, as Black professionals, to define ourselves, shape our own narratives, and build our futures on our own terms. In spaces where we’re often misunderstood, underestimated, or boxed into stereotypes, embracing self-determination is essential. It’s about rejecting limitations and taking charge of how we show up, contribute, and lead in our industries. Kujichagulia reminds us that our voices matter. Whether we’re charting new career paths, leading teams, building businesses, or mentoring the next generation, we carry the legacy of those who came before us—those who fought to define themselves against the odds. For me, Kujichagulia means: ? Advocating for ourselves unapologetically. ? Creating opportunities that reflect our values and vision. ? Reclaiming our stories and sharing them boldly. ? Collaborating to uplift and empower our communities. As we close this year and look ahead, let’s honor the principle of Kujichagulia by asking ourselves: ? How can I take ownership of my personal and professional narrative? ? What steps can I take to carve out spaces for myself and others to thrive? ? How can I use my journey to inspire and support others? To my network: I’d love to hear how self-determination has shaped your journey. Let’s celebrate and uplift one another as we continue defining success on our own terms. #Kwanzaa #Kujichagulia #SelfDetermination

As a Black woman and a communications professional, I can’t ignore the timing of Target’s decision to roll back its DEI efforts right before #BlackHistoryMonth. For years, companies have leveraged this month to spotlight their commitment to Black communities, amplify diverse voices, and highlight equity initiatives. But when efforts like these are scaled back, the message becomes clear: inclusivity and equity were only priorities when it was convenient. From a communications perspective, this is a pivotal moment. Actions like these don’t just damage trust—they speak volumes about where a company’s true values lie. Black History Month isn’t a PR opportunity; it’s a time to reflect, honor, and actively uplift Black culture and contributions. What do you think? How can we push for real, lasting change? Let’s discuss. #BlackHistoryMonth #DEI #Accountability #BlackVoices #Communications #DevenTrowers #PublicRelations
