POV: You suddenly remember that physically slowing down is a great way to reassure your nervous system that you’re not being chased by a bear ?? Anna Mathur shared this on a reel recently, and my goodness, it resonated! Especially during the crescendo before the Clean & Tidy Home Show. I love the run-up to an event - the excitement is palpable - but with that comes nerves, worry, and those inevitable last-minute requests, dropouts, and ideas, no matter how ahead you try to be. Now the event has come and gone, and while I’m so proud of everything we achieved, I’m running on pure adrenaline. The post-event high is real - there’s still so much to do! The community, team, and partners still need things, and it’s the perfect time to gather feedback and start planning for next year while everything is fresh. But then there’s also the post-event blues. Our community feels it too. We’re sad it’s over, we miss the energy, the time spent together. This is why year-round community engagement is so important. How do you manage the transition after a big deadline or key moment?

63 days of building LOCKED ?? LOCKED is reimagining dating by creating an offline-first experience where you meet before you match. Think of it as the intersection of a dating app and an events marketplace—bringing singles together through curated in-person experiences. My initial focus has been testing the product (the events) and gauging interest. So far, the results have been exciting: ? 10 events hosted to date – 9 sold out, and 8 were ticketed (we have revenue!) ? ~15% of attendees have returned for more than one event. One person has come to 5 of the 10 events so far!? ? Community growth – Over 1,000 singles in San Francisco have applied for membership, plus 17 in NYC and a few from other cities What’s next? It’s time to take LOCKED to the next level by building the platform! Excited to see how this journey unfolds and to continue connecting people in a meaningful, offline-first way. Stay tuned—this is just the beginning!

Community is everything. This is the second in my series of reflections on my favorite projects from Sweat in 2024. One of the most exciting? Partnering with Powerade to create something truly impactful. A few years ago, our team sat down to think about the future of Sweat. One of our goals was clear: bring back community events and bootcamps - real, in-person moments of connection - after years of engaging our community remotely. Fast forward to 2024, and not only are we hosting regular events around the globe, but the Powerade bootcamps have taken that vision even further. From Powerade Active Water bottles in stores across Australia and New Zealand unlocking access to the Sweat app, to an unforgettable event led by Kayla Itsines, Katie Martin, and an appearance from our newest trainer, Ruba Ali, this collaboration wasn’t just about fitness - it was about connection. Set against the iconic Sydney Harbour, with our incredible trainers leading the way, the bootcamp became a celebration of movement, community, and the joy of feeling great together. What made this partnership so meaningful was a shared mission: helping people feel their best. Sweat inspires women to stay active. Powerade Active Water fuels that energy. Together, we created an experience that lifted everyone involved. This is what community is all about - connection, shared purpose, and supporting each other.

Russell Partnership Collection attended the #HostCity2024, Inspiring Action Conference in Glasgow last week, where an impressive lineup of panel speakers explored a broad spectrum of topics. Key discussions highlighted the role of events as powerful drivers of #diversity, #employmentgeneration, and enduring #socialimpact. A central theme examined how these initiatives can elevate the global profile and competitiveness of host cities, effectively "boosting their global share price."
Host City 2024 was back after lunch with a panel on harnessing events for positive community change. Rob Dickson, Director of Industry and Events, VisitScotland, set the scene by reminding us of insights from earlier in the day; how events can promote diversity, create employment opportunities beyond staging the event, and empower communities to improve their environment and lives. For Allegra Roccato, Head of Events at World Physiotherapy, achieving these outcomes is all about dialogue. “We go out and speak with communities about their needs and the gaps they have.” . Richard Smith CBE, COO of The Invictus Games Foundation, said the key thing is to be clear about what your event is trying to achieve. “For us at Invictus Games, it’s about supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of armed forces veterans. When you have that anchor, it informs everything that you do - both the event as the centrepiece and the legacy it has.” That anchor also enables your brand to grow. Richard added: “Because the Invictus’ vision and mission is clear, other countries can pick it up, and it begins to generate its own momentum with only the lightest of oversight from us.” Prem Singh Bhart, CEO of British Kabaddi League, spoke of the importance of genuine engagement with community groups. He pointed to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) policies as an example of an oft well-meaning measure, that can be viewed with suspicion by marginal groups. “EDI policies don’t always reflect real-life. Organisations need to engage with communities directly when planning their events. Engagement is your friend, even if it means hearing tough lessons.” #HostCity2024 #HostCity
