DEI isn’t a trend. It really isn't; it’s a must-have for building strong, future-ready organizations. Here’s why companies like Meta and IBM are leaning into DEI. Essentially, they know it is smart business: ?????? ????????????: Just like students choosing colleges based on state policies, employees are drawn to companies whose values match theirs. DEI-driven companies are more attractive to diverse talent and lead to a creative and innovative workforce. ???????????????????? ?????? ??????????????: Customers care about brands that stand for something. Clear DEI commitments build trust, showing that a company values more than profit. ?????????????????? ????????????????: Data from McKinsey & Company shows that companies with diverse teams perform better — by up to 35%! Different perspectives mean better solutions, smarter decision-making and stronger growth. ???????????? ??????????????????: A team that mirrors its audience understands its needs. DEI helps companies connect with more people, creating impact. ????????????-????????????????: Companies committed to DEI are more resilient and adaptable. DEI isn’t optional; it’s essential. #BetterTogether https://lnkd.in/eMqPygyM

Interesting times ahead. Higher education institutions and companies are revising their diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) hiring practices, with some distancing themselves from controversial DEI initiatives. MIT's decision reflects a shift towards focusing on wellbeing and inclusion rather than mandatory diversity statements. #diversity #inclusion #DEI

An interesting summary article on the topic of DEI. In times like these we should consider what the next chapter of social justice, equity, and creating spaces of belonging in the workplace will look like. DEI will never die, but perhaps be transformed. #DEI #Diversity #Equity #Inclusion #Belonging

"I encourage each of us, especially department management, to question and explore the reasoning behind our stances and how that affects whether or how we engage with decolonization, justice, equity, diversity, inclusion, and/or accessibility. And, rather than relying on declarations related to D-JEDIA and/or top-down policies, I suggest focusing on the self as a vector for positive impact." Happy Women's History Month! Throughout March, we're highlighting the remarkable women who have shaped technology and innovation. Today, we're thrilled to spotlight Joy Buolamwini, a trailblazing computer scientist and activist whose groundbreaking work in AI is reshaping the industry. After graduating with honors from the Georgia Institute of Technology, Joy's academic journey led her to conduct pioneering research at renowned institutions like Oxford and MIT. Along the way, she garnered prestigious accolades such as the Rhodes, Fulbright, and Aspen Scholarships. However, it was Joy's eye-opening research at MIT on facial recognition software that truly propelled her into the spotlight. Unveiling inherent racial and gender biases embedded within these systems, Joy's discoveries ignited a mission to combat AI harms and biases. In response, she founded the Algorithmic Justice League, a formidable nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for change in the tech sphere. Joy's impact extends beyond academia; she is also the author of "Poet of Code," a groundbreaking book that beautifully merges poetry and coding to explore the intersection of art and technology. Her unwavering dedication to equity and inclusion in AI is not only transforming the tech industry but also inspiring countless women and BIPOC individuals to pursue careers in STEM. Join us in celebrating Joy Buolamwini and the countless other remarkable women who are leaving an indelible mark on history! Thanks to pk mutch for pointing out how policy and action become misaligned over time, especially with regard to the ongoing barriers based on gender. Universities are in the position to take a lead on shifting the economy towards a regenerative model that can reduce our dependence on resource extraction and its negative consequences. As Maja Lalic, a Serbian architect and expert on gender equality and climate change remarks: "The circular economy provides us with amazing opportunities to introduce new ethical norms in business and fine-tune the balance between profit and social responsibility. Women leaders in various industries are already proving they are ready to go the extra mile to achieve more sustainable business practices coupled with a positive social impact." #climate change #circular economy #gender equity

Last week, this full-page ad in the Globe and Mail celebrating this year's QuantumShift graduates appeared. Look closely. Only two white women (five per cent) and three men (7.5 per cent) of colour in the entire list. Last year there were seven white women out of a cohort of 28 (25 per cent). In 2016, there were NINE women, two of whom are women of colour. Talk about quantum drift! Backwards. So tired of calling this stuff out. But we must. Wondering about leadership who thought it would be OK to publish an ad demonstrating total lack of diversity in a marquis business school program? Especially since their website says, “At Ivey, diversity is the foundation of everything we do.” Sadly, it appears that the only type of diversity noticeable in the 2024 Quantum Shift program is the colour of the shirt worn for the photo-even that's a stretch. ?Perhaps future particpants will withdraw once they look around the room out of protest. Perhaps program leaders will do better next year. Better yet, perhaps no one will apply until they do. #DEI #universities #inclusion
