Today we present a special AAIH #StudentSpotlight featuring Abraham Obianke, a registered student member of The Alliance for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare (AAIH) who has recently concluded his Fetal Health project. Abraham kindly shared this project with us, and we want to share with you; keep reading to learn more! Project: Fetal Health Risk Detection using Machine Learning. Problem Statement:?According to the UNICEF, the neonatal period is the most vulnerable time for a child. Globally, 2.3 million children died in the first month of life in 2022 – approximately 6,300 neonatal deaths every day. Data Source: I retrieved relevant fetal health data from University of California, UC Irvine, dataset archive with over 2126 fetal Cardiotocograms (CTGs) consisting of measurements of fetal heart rate (FHR) and uterine contraction (UC) features classified and labelled by expert Obstetricians. My Data-Driven Solution: I developed a patient triage system that analyzes data from Cardiotogram to detect potential fetal health risks, empowering healthcare professionals and mothers with the knowledge needed to seek timely medical interventions. Project Highlights: 1. Model achieved an accuracy of >90% using KNN machine learning algorithm. 2. Model built on robust dataset classified and labelled by expert Obstetricians to ensure reliable and actionable prediction. 3. Model operationalized with a user friendly flask web application. Why my solution matters: This preventive Machine Learning project in healthcare reflects my dedication to working towards the attainment of 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs goal 3 of ending all preventable deaths under five years of age using machine learning techniques and a Data-Driven approach.
