If you've driven past Blue Cord’s Orlando HQ this past week, it will be hard to miss our brand-new flagpole proudly flying the American flag.?Perched at the very top is a shiny gold ball.?The known functional purpose of this ball is to keep the flag from sliding off the top of the flagpole and, in military flagpoles, the ball often contains a pulley system hidden within to allow for a quick hoist and lowering of the flag.?However, the contents of the gold ball in our flagpole stems from a rich military history (or legend, as some say) in the “Tale of the Truck.”? ? The gold ball on top of the flagpole, also known as the ‘truck,’ contains a razor blade, a match, and a bullet. Why these items? While the exact items vary depending on the story you hear, the telling of the tale is the same – should a military base find themselves being overrun by enemy forces, the contents within the truck (or ball) may be used to defend Old Glory.?The razor is to be used to cut down the flag or to tear it into strips, the match is for a dignified destruction of the flag and the bullet is for the final attempt, if necessary, to defend the flag to the death by whatever means possible. In case you were wondering as to the usefulness of a bullet without a gun, legend says that a pistol is often buried at the base of the flagpole or some 50 paces away. ? Whatever version of the tale you have heard, we are proud of the message it conveys in the symbolic importance of the American flag and the unrelenting devotion of a soldier defending our country.???? ? #BlueCord #SDVOSB #MilitaryLegends #USA?#FlagPole

Popular is oft conflated with quality. This can be particularly jarring when encountering people who think whatever noises Ted Nugent or Kid Rock emit is “music”. But it also applies to #Firearms. ? Seeing not only NATO countries such as #France & #Germany, but also #NewZealand, give up on their service rifle designs & adopt AR-15/M-16 based #Weapons, is a quite swan song for other post-WWII weapon designs such as the Galil, STEYR ARMS GmbH AUG, Heckler & Koch GmbH HK33/53, & FAMAS (sorry, not baller enough to be able to afford a FAMAS). ? While the civilian market will always flourish with new designs for #Guns, western militaries seem to be consolidating on M16 based weapons. That is, except the US Army, which seems hell bent on giving SIG SAUER, Inc. a #Government #Jobs program to reinvent the battle rifle with a bunch of extra, unproven steps. But I digress. ? I don’t think this consolidation on M16 derived platforms is because the M16 design is the “best”. If we had a Khmer Rouge “Year Zero” restart with guns, I’d argue that the IMI Systems Ltd Galil ACE is a simpler & better design for mass issue as a service rifle. But like with 5.56 as a caliber, the ship for other designs sailed long ago & the argument is essentially over. ? I think the AR’s enduring success is because it’s a fully mature design; accessories, parts, magazines, etc are ubiquitous; and the manual of arms is fairly simple & well known.

The article details the extensive testing and evaluation process undertaken at the Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey, where the new weapons are being developed. Col. Jason Bohannon, leading the Next Generation Squad Weapons program, emphasizes the historical significance of this transition, comparing it to the shift from the M14 to the M16 in the 1960s. The introduction of the 6.8mm round is described as a middle ground between the smaller 5.56mm and the larger 7.62mm NATO rounds, designed to provide improved performance at longer ranges and against armored targets. Experts like Ama?l Kotlarski and Nicholas Drummond highlight the limitations of the 5.56mm round, noting its reduced effectiveness at longer distances and its struggles to penetrate body armor and other obstacles. Furthermore, the article touches on historical perspectives, with retired generals Mick Bednarek and Robert H. Scales Jr. testifying about the inadequacies of the 5.56mm round against modern body armor during Senate Armed Services Committee hearings in 2017. Their insights underscore the urgency for the new 6.8mm caliber to enhance the Army’s lethality on the battlefield. The XM7 and XM250, equipped with the M157 Next Generation Squad Weapon-Fire Control optic, are designed to allow soldiers to engage targets more effectively from greater distances. **Citation:** Amadi, Jason.
