They will forget the dish.?But they will never forget how you made them feel." -- says Shaun Christie-David, Founder of some of the coolest restaurants making a huge impact (they've donated 500k+ meals and hired nearly 90 staff from underrepresented communities)! ?? As we embrace the season of gratitude, Brighton Our World encourages everyone to find meaningful ways to give thanks and show appreciation in their communities. Here are a few ideas to inspire acts of kindness and gratitude: 1. Volunteer Your Time: Offer your time at local shelters, food banks, or community centers. Even a few hours can make a big difference to those in need. 2. Support Local Businesses: Show your gratitude to local entrepreneurs by shopping at local stores, dining at local restaurants, or leaving positive reviews online. 3. Help a Neighbor: Whether it's raking leaves, shoveling snow, or just checking in, small acts of service can strengthen community bonds and show you care. 4. Write Thank You Notes: A handwritten note can express appreciation in a way that digital messages cannot. Consider writing notes to community helpers like teachers, healthcare workers, and postal workers. 5. Donate to Local Charities: Support local causes that make a difference in your community. Monetary donations or donations of goods can both have a significant impact. 6. Host a Community Meal: Organize a potluck or barbecue to bring neighbors together and create an opportunity for connection and thanks. Let's use this time to spread kindness and thanks across our communities. Every gesture of gratitude makes our world a little brighter! #BrightonOurWorld #CommunityGratitude #GiveThanks #ActsOfKindness

Last year, I posted about the organizations I donated funds to celebrate today’s holiday. This year, I am choosing to celebrate with offering kindness and abundance. -How can I #support you? -Do you need an #introduction? -Do you need a second review of your LinkedIn profile? -Do you need some additional guidance? An ear to listen? Some kind words? A compliment? -How can I encourage, promote, or amplify your message? Here to help (for real). Trying to spread some good sh*t around.

In our latest blog post, we delve into a thought-provoking topic that challenges societal perceptions about charity and holiday giving. The piece explores the implications of how preferences in holiday generosity may shape the experiences of children during the festive season. By examining the contrast between societal expectations and the realities faced by children in need, we aim to shed light on important discussions surrounding equity and the importance of inclusive giving. We invite you to read the full article and join the conversation about how we can better support all children during the holidays. You can find the blog post here: https://ift.tt/PlqpZef.

This Christmas, while stockings and festive meals fill many homes, some of the very people we see and interact with daily may be quietly facing the unspoken challenge of empty cupboards. Food insecurity often hides in plain sight, and it’s closer than we think. Within Common Change UK, groups work not only during the holidays but throughout the year to walk alongside those in difficult times—offering practical support and compassionate solidarity in ways that are profound yet quietly transformative. ?? Here’s how you can help: ?? Not part of a Common Change group? No problem! You can still make a difference by donating to our collaborative giving fund or even starting or joining a group. Reach out—we’re here to help. ?? Donate to your local food bank this giving season. Find one near you at https://lnkd.in/eKZ447nv. ?? Know of someone in need? Share resources or connect with local community support. ?? Help spread the word! Comment with your postcode and highlight food programs making a difference in your area. ?? Like, share, or tag a friend who might want to make an impact. Together, we can offer kindness and hope where it’s needed most. ? Let’s make this season, and every season, a little brighter for everyone. Photo by Nico Smit on Unsplash

This weekend, I had the chance to volunteer with Meals on Wheels, delivering meals to 25 individuals—21 of whom received enough for the week. It was a gentle reminder of how much need there is in our communities and how important it is to stay involved throughout the year, not just during the holidays. If you’re looking for ways to give back that don’t involve donations, here are 5 simple, free ways to make a difference: 1. Volunteer your time: Local food banks, shelters, and organizations like Meals on Wheels can always use an extra set of hands. 2. Offer mentorship: Whether it’s helping students with schoolwork or guiding someone looking to build skills, sharing your knowledge can go a long way. 3. Spread the word: Sometimes, simply sharing information about community resources or volunteer opportunities can connect people to help they need. 4. Organize a collection: Gather items like clothes or food from your friends and family to donate to local organizations. 5. Be a good neighbor: Offer help to someone nearby—whether it’s running an errand, sharing a meal, or just checking in. It’s a privilege to be able to give back in any way, and I’m grateful for the chance to do so. Let’s all keep finding ways to support one another, no matter the season. #Community #GiveBack #SupportLocal *picture blurred for last name privacy and anonymity

Vegans, Christians, Environmentalists, Councillors, Car salesmen, Charities.... Representatives from all these groups have at some point given themselves a bad reputation for trying to force their agenda onto members of the public. Not listening, not taking no for an answer, even demoralising or demonising people for not fully agreeing with their position. Very rarely does this actually work out well... Often it has the opposite effect and pushes people further away.? If you’re trying to engage new supporters with your cause, remember: Fundraising is a dialogue, not a soapbox ??? Ask people about the things that matter to them and actually listen to their response before making another move.? It’s also an invitation, not a transaction ?? No one likes being backed into a corner. You’re offering them an exciting opportunity – giving people agency is empowering and leads to more genuine conversions.? Not everyone’s in a rush ? Forcing urgency onto people who are contently working at a comfortable pace makes the experience unnecessarily stressful and new donors are likely to walk away.? Not everyone will care. And that’s okay. You can’t make people engage in a cause they’re simply not interested in. If you’re dialoguing, you can filter earlier on and spend more time engaging with the right people ?? And if all else fails, just remember the power of free chocolate. ???
