We are really looking forward to watching this - seeing people with disabilities being positively represented in the media, especially in a high-profile production like Disney's 'Out of My Mind', is incredibly refreshing and empowering. It brings much-needed visibility to a group that has historically been underrepresented or misrepresented. Positive representation helps challenge stereotypes and changes societal perceptions, presenting people with disabilities not as objects of pity, but as fully realised individuals with talents, dreams, and stories worth telling. The upcoming film Out of My Mind, based on the bestselling novel by Sharon M. Draper, is particularly impactful because it centres on Melody Brooks, a brilliant young girl with cerebral palsy. Her intelligence, resilience, and humour shine through, providing a narrative that focuses on her strengths rather than her limitations. This type of representation not only educates audiences but also gives people with disabilities the chance to see themselves reflected in popular culture, promoting inclusion and empathy. Moreover, seeing a major studio like Disney+ embracing this story signals a positive shift in the industry, showing that diverse stories have universal appeal and value. It brings hope for a future where more voices, particularly those that have been marginalized, are heard and celebrated. #OutOfMyMindMovie #Inclusion #DisabilityRepresentation #Empowerment #Visibility #DisabilityCelebration #DisneyPlus #Disney+ #CerebralPalsy #Inclusive #Inclusivity #Empowering #ChallengingStereotypes

It’s finally here! I was so excited when I saw the release of the Will and Harper trailer—it’s not every day that we see a film that tackles such deeply personal and often misunderstood experiences with the compassion, humor, and authenticity that this story promises. This film goes beyond just entertainment; it’s a powerful lens into the kind of friendship that transcends identity labels and highlights the transformative power of allyship. It feels like we’re witnessing a real turning point in how stories about the transgender community are being told on a mainstream platform. I can’t help but feel hopeful about the ripple effect this could have on conversations about allyship, inclusion, and what it really means to show up for others. What’s truly exciting is that this film has the potential to challenge viewers in all the right ways—opening their hearts and minds, asking them to reflect on their own biases, and pushing them to be better allies in their everyday lives. It’s not just about Will Ferrell’s celebrity status; it’s about his vulnerability, his willingness to admit what he doesn’t know, and the power of showing up even when things aren’t perfect. It’s a lesson in allyship that I think we can all take to heart. I’m genuinely thrilled at the possibility that Will and Harper will hit the big screen and spark important, much-needed conversations around transgender experiences and allyship. Films like this create space for real, transformative dialogue—pushing us all to reflect on how we can better support, affirm, and listen to those whose experiences may be different from our own. I can’t wait to see its impact, and I’m hopeful this is just the beginning of many more stories that celebrate authentic, meaningful allyship. Let’s continue to amplify these voices, challenge preconceived notions, and spark change together! #WillFerrell #Allyship #WillAndHarper #TransgenderAwareness #Inclusion #GrowthMindset #ExcitedForChange

I find it disappointing that IAAP uses ableist language to describe the main character in a movie. As a disabled person, I'm tired of disabled people being described as accomplishing things "despite" our impairments. In fact, it would be disappointing coming out of any PR campaigns, but it's particularly egregious coming from an organization that, on the surface at least, is there to promote accessibility and inclusion for disabled people. Do better IAAP - International Association of Accessibility Professionals. Especially since these kind of things are part of the Body of Knowledge required to pass CPACC. Edit: Looks like IAAP has edited the copy of this post and no longer uses the expression "despite" in relation to disability.

EVERY educator needs to watch the movie Out of My Mind on Disney+. Understand the lived experiences of disabled people. Support them by incuding them. It matters more than you know. Sadly, I have heard teachers say things you’ll hear in this movie, and have listened to what the system says because that’s what I was trained to do. I know better now. Inclusion matters. #Education #Inclusion #AssistiveTechnology https://lnkd.in/gwc-kBCs

The coveted new role in Hollywood - Production Access Coordinators making sure audition locations, film and tv sets are accessible for everyone. The role also provides a safe place for cast and crew to disclose a disability and what they might need on set. While the position is not yet widespread, it is emerging as a new role to be more inclusive and ensure opportunities for those with disabilities. The goal is to bring more people with disabilities into the production access coordinating industry and to make the role standardized across all productions. Exciting news in the world of film! Took Albie and Arthur to see Warner Bros.' latest release, Buffalo Kids last night, it is not only an epic adventure but also a groundbreaking step forward for representation in cinema. This film features a child with cerebral palsy as the hero, a powerful portrayal that challenges traditional narratives and celebrates differences in a meaningful way. Buffalo Kids is a reminder that heroes come in all forms, and by raising awareness of cerebral palsy, we are breaking down barriers and embracing the richness of diverse experiences. Representation matters, especially for children with disabilities who rarely see themselves as the center of their own stories. This film shines a light on the importance of inclusivity, creating a world where everyone, regardless of ability, can be celebrated for their unique strengths. Let's keep pushing for more stories like this, where differences aren't just acknowledged, they are embraced as superpowers! #BuffaloKids #braininjurygroup #CerebralPalsyAwareness #InclusionMatters #Representation #CelebrateDifferences #FilmForChange

Big news for inclusion in filmmaking! Woody Harrelson just announced that filming for Champions 2 is underway, with the original cast returning! The first Champions film told the story of a minor-league basketball coach who finds purpose by coaching a team of players with disabilities. It was a groundbreaking moment for inclusion in Hollywood, featuring actors with disabilities in prominent roles, breaking stereotypes, and showcasing the talents of an underrepresented community. We can't wait to see this film take inclusion to new heights! Like or comment on this post if you're excited to see Champions 2! #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityAdvocate #RepresentationMatters #Champions

This conversation between Conan I'Brien and Jon Stewart sheds such gentle light on a problematic pattern across media industries, where its practitioners - film and tv makers, reporters and editors, musicians, game developers, ad creatives, content creators - invest their 'whole selves' into the work while what is used to benchmark and assess their work rests on flimsy, meaningless, (statistically) unreliable and insignificant metrics. Sooner or later this leads to deep disenchantment and indeed, as O'Brien and Stewart claim, this may contribute why media work is a young persons field of work. However, it is exactly these young professionals (and among them a majority of women, LGBTQ+ and people with minority backgrounds) that are leaving the industry in droves (in what is called the 'turnstile effect'). All of this speaks to the exploitative, manipulative and fundamentally unprofessional way of evaluating 'good work' in all media - and it leads to people burning out and getting sick on the job.
