If you're not part of the Mindful Employer Leeds network your missing out on so much important advice, resources and expertise that can make your company a place your employees love to work. Yesterday, Cat Macauley and I had the pleasure to attend the the Leeds Mindful Employer Network Conference 2024 hosted by Leeds Mind and put together as no small feat thanks to Leigh Staunton. Main takeaway for me was to keep having conversations. You might think you're making a decision that has your employee's best intentions in mind, but it's far better to have an open conversation with them about what would suit you both. Notable extras: - Being in a lecture setting is an incredibly good environment to be reminded to try and get good sleep. - The session on how to support people back to work was genuinely invaluable, lots of stuff that as a business owner I just didn't event relate to how it might impact an employee (sounds funny admitting that) - A small amount of anti-stigma insight went a long way: don't forgot you can be the one who stigmatises yourself. - Finally, really inspiring talks from the Leeds Mind CEO and Mind CEO, Lucy Hancock & Dr Sarah Hughes ended the day on a high. As an employer, Colin Grist and I have always strived to be good, but I went into yesterday with the mindset, can we be better. What a business week ahead! It's time to let loose and celebrate the incredible work done by case management professionals through the UK. My key takeaways from the event are: ?? There's a ton of solutions out there ?? Wellbeing Managers are overwhelmed ?? Budgets are tighter than ever But - on the flip side ?? ? Companies genuinely want to help their employees ? Wellbeing is still a high priority ? Companies are looking at ways to innovate their programmes, in order to work round the issues But best of all, ?? by looking at how full ALL the sessions were, people care enough to learn more about it ?? which is awesome. We celebrate our people this #EmployeeAppreciationDay Working in the event management industry is one of the most stressful industries to work in, and as Advanced Good Work Pledge holders we have invested in mental health training to give the whole team the tools they need to stay healthy, avoid burnout and thrive. In January, the whole BeaconHouse Events team headed offsite to Ouseburn Farm to take part in a mental health at work training session, discussing how we could support and teach others and how to recognise the signs of ill mental health. We take team wellbeing very seriously, and investing in training is not only great for team morale and health; it can also increase productivity, boost job satisfaction, and reduce staff turnover. I’ve even been a part of that when I’ve been asked to run a one-off workshop, which while it can help those who are ready for change, isn't always effective in creating a long-term culture shift. One workshop can’t solve all the problems on its own. That’s why I now take a leadership-focused approach, starting with the top to create a culture that really supports people’s wellbeing and drives performance.
