Water, water everywhere - but where is it all coming from? Well as Mark Fermor from GeoSmart Information reveals in this week's InsTech Talks podcast - a lot of that flood water is coming from beneath us - the groundwater that accumulates over time from rain and other sources. Groundwater is the fourth flood peril - (along with pluvial (=rain), fluvial (=water flow) and coastal - we need to be considering in many areas of the world when modelling future flood loss - and the antecedent conditions ("what happened before") are strong predictors of future loss. Mark explains more - including what happened next after the BBC interviewed his colleague Paul Ellis last year. An interesting conversation was held between Mark Fermor of GeoSmart Information and Matthew Grant of InsTech, where they discussed UK flooding and the importance of understanding the role of groundwater. You can listen to the podcast here. As discussed, the insurance industry requires an informed view of flood risk and the impacts of climate change to underwrite risk and ensure UK resilience. Our FloodSmart Anaytics provides data and tools which support a better understanding of this important and complex issue. #floodrisk #insuretech #climatechangeimpacts #groundwater

This super interesting and one of the many reasons we need a holistic approach to buildings and landscapes. Historic changes to our landscapes have direct impacts on our flood resilience
Why has groundwater flooding been forgotten? Katie is joined by our Project Groundwater Lead Jed Ramsay to discuss this in Episode 2 of Groundwater Rising, out today: https://lnkd.in/dRnXA-t6 Jed covers the history of groundwater flooding and explains why it doesn't neatly fit into the categories of flooding we are used to, the challenges that it brings... and why we can no longer afford to let it be forgotten flooding. Plus Hertfordshire resident Andy tells the story of how a river that had been "dead" for decades suddenly re-awakened to threaten the houses of him and his neighbours. #Podcast #ForgottenFlooding #GroundwaterRising #FCRIP

It was fascinating talking to my WSP in the Middle East colleagues Nariba Gittens and Farhad Jafari about the challenges associated with managing raising groundwater levels and flash rainfall events in the Region. There is more complexity in water management in typically arid climates than is generally appreciated. Very much looking forward to further developing strategies to manage this valuable resource in a circular manner. #water #sustainability
??? New Episode Alert! ??? ? As our region continues to experience shifts in rain intensity and weather patterns, the demand for effective flood mitigation strategies has never been more critical. In the latest episode of the WSP Anticipate Podcast, Daymion Jenkins?is joined by Nariba Gittens, and Dr Farhad Jafari to discuss the challenges facing flood mitigation programs. They also explore the strategies, solutions and technologies that are reshaping the landscape of flood resilience across the region. ??
