In an increasingly technological world, digital literacy has become indispensable so that we can navigate this world more safely and at the same time make the most of the digital world. ? -- In which ways are you using digital skills or tools in your work/your educational system/your institution? -- ? The IPB system is highly digitised, making work more concentrated on the web, through the institutional applications. These have a very important feature, because as well as concentrating all the information, they make it easier for users to navigate and find it safely. -- What tips do you have for others?in relation to digital skills or tools? – ? Partnerships are in the driver's seat of the Future of Education. The Future of Education Consortium (FoEC) is built on a collaborative ethos, bringing together a community of professionals focused on growth, partnerships, and tackling shared challenges. The Consortium connects EdTech innovators, educators, policymakers, and organisations to push the boundaries of education. The upcoming Future of Education Summit, on 5 December 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia, follows this same approach. The summit is not a typical conference; it focuses on real connections, practical collaboration, and advancing the EdTech sector. Attendees will gain valuable insights from diverse perspectives, learn from each other, and explore new growth opportunities. During the CEE #Edu Digital Summit in Warsaw, we had a great opportunity to comprehensively discuss the use of new technologies in education. For us, this is a base of very important inspiration and experiences ?? ???? Because we need to know how to carefully implement new technologies, especially in an area as sensitive as education. As Kaisa Humlebo, digital strategy expert at Sollentuna Kommune, Stockholm, points out, 'we can't just push all the tech into schools and invest so much money into it without technological support'. 'The infrastructure should be really solid, because if it's not solid, teachers can't use their modern tools. Also pedagogical support is very important' – the Swedish expert noted. ???? Sabina S?gi, Head of Research Cooperation, EdTech Estonia, emphasised that although Estonia is one of the fastest digitising countries in the world, it is also not free from problems. One of them is the lack of experts in the STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). It is very important to encourage young people, especially women, who are still less likely to choose this path, to get involved in technology. The area of mental health and wellbeing is also central to discussions about technology in education, Sabina S?gi pointed out.

Rethinking Education for the 21st Century ?? As technology and society rapidly evolve, our traditional education systems struggle to keep up.? ? The models of teaching that worked a century ago are no longer fit for preparing students for today’s world. ? Students have unprecedented access to information outside the classroom, rendering old teaching methods obsolete. Meanwhile, the skills required for success—creativity, critical thinking, adaptability—are at odds with the rigid, standardised curricula still in place. ? Education is also facing economic disruption. Public institutions, stretched for funding, compete with cost-effective, technology-enabled learning platforms. Learners are taking control of their education, seeking alternatives to the traditional university model. ? So, what’s the way forward? Experts argue that we need a fundamental shift—one that puts 21st-century learners at the centre. This means moving away from rote memorisation and standardised tests, and embracing learning experiences that foster deeper understanding, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and social-emotional development. ? Technology will play a vital role in this transformation, enabling personalised, adaptive learning. But the real opportunity lies in how technology integrates with innovative teaching methods. ? We must also align education with the evolving needs of employers and society. This will require collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers to keep curricula and credentials relevant. ? Ultimately, rethinking education is not just about updating what we teach or integrating new tools. It’s about adopting a mindset of continuous reinvention, viewing education as a dynamic, evolving system that must adapt to the world around it. Only then can we prepare the next generation to thrive in an uncertain future. ? Digitalised higher education: key developments, questions, and concerns "There are many unknowns about the aggregate impact of #digitalisation on the sector, and hence, questions about potential risks and harms remain unanswered. Our approach in this collective piece is to reflect on particularly relevant and impactful dynamics of #highereducation digitalisation." The commentary is a workshop outcome (part of Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) funded project,?Universities and Unicorns?(UU)) and was written as a collective reflection.
