Over my last 15 years of educational reform, success has been redefined by the introduction of two innovative small high schools that offered a unique choice for students. Unlike traditional schools, these new institutions did not select students based on their past academic performance. This provided a realistic and accessible small school option for many students who had previously been overlooked. 2008 New Visions Annual Report https://lnkd.in/dvDP_ihR MDRC October 2023 P-TECH 9-14 Pathways to Success Implementation, Impact, and Cost Findings from the New York City P-TECH 9-14 Schools Evaluation New findings in this report indicate that the P-TECH model increased students' postsecondary degree completion, particularly for male students, and boosted internship and dual enrollment rates, even during the pandemic. "By the end of the first year of postsecondary education, 2.6 percent of female and 1.8 percent of male P-TECH 9-14 students had earned degrees, compared with virtually no students from the comparison group, of either gender. These impacts for both genders are statistically significant". Sustainability especially in leadership matters (FULL STOP). It is damn near impossible still sitting at the helm of Pathways in Technology Early College High School. Why, because innovations are only as good as the current dollars they bring to the table for districts. If there is no new money, then the priority changes. In the spirit of my recent LinkedIn timeline, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve secured a place at the University of Birmingham to study Liberal Arts and Sciences! My path to further education has been unconventional. Without A-Levels or Level 3 qualifications, I felt like a mental portcullis had blocked my way, and I assumed that further education was out of reach. After secondary school, personal hardships provided invaluable insights. A summer camp job at a university sparked a transformative growth mindset, reigniting my academic confidence. With newfound self-belief in my arsenal, I decided to pursue further education. I sought a mentally stimulating yet rewarding degree that would match my strengths. Thanks to Staffordshire University for the invaluable opportunity to join their Computer Game Programming Foundation year. This crucial step allowed me to reintegrate into academia, develop essential skills like academic writing, and build the confidence to question and fully understand the material. My hard work paid off, earning me an overall 86% in my foundation year. This experience left me with three key takeaways: ??? If you don’t ask, the answer will always be no. Had I taken course requirements as gospel, I would never have applied. ??? Lack of self-belief is more limiting than lack of opportunities. Through self-belief, I discovered opportunities aligned with my academic situation, resulting in 3/5 offers. ??? Research is essential during applications. I spoke with multiple admissions teams, attended personal statement workshops and open days—even taking the Caledonian Sleeper to visit the University of Stirling—watched countless YouTube videos, and welcomed feedback on my personal statement. All this preparation ultimately led to this offer. In short, A-level grades—or, in my case, the lack thereof—are not the be-all and end-all of entry to further education. There’s a constellation of opportunities out there. With perseverance and the right tools, like self-belief and preparation, you can find them—just as I did. #ResultsDay2024 #Education #University

It’s National #STEMDay! A special day to recognize the importance of science, technology, engineering and math education and careers among young people. ???? I was first interested in STEM when my late Dad took my siblings and I out for a walk in our vegetable garden. He then explained photosynthesis to 3 curious-minded tots. He did so with enthusiasm as he explained terminology into bite-sized chunks, the actual process, with inputs and outputs and why we should care. I have tried to ignite the same passion in our 2 young ladies as well as philanthropically. At AZ, I’m one of many dedicated STEMbassadors.
