The latest Spotlight on Uganda country report, by #GEMReport and Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), focuses on primary education completion and foundational learning in the country. Despite challenges like overcrowded classrooms and teacher shortages, #Uganda is committed to improving outcomes. Initiatives like the Early Grade Reading program show promise in enhancing learning at grade 3 level. However, challenges persist, with low levels of foundational learning evident. The report offers recommendations, including clearer vision articulation, curriculum restructuring, and enhanced teacher training. We need a serious balancing in our education sector. Training too many professionals without creating matching opportunities is a fallacy to the job economy. We need entrepreneurs who will establish business organisations to absorb the numerous accountants, HR professionals, IT professionals, operations officers, customer service personnel, engineers, technical personnel, etc. The education should be more on hands-on experience, physical skills, and production. How do you produce an engineer without the engine and expect the knowledge to be useful? If those that have power today fail us, tomorrow we won't have an excuse to give because power will be given to you and me, the youths today.
