Thanks for all you do Deborah Dull . Having managed drug access market shaping activities in Nigeria Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. , I resonate well the challenges you listed below and the innovate supply chain strategies. #globalhealth #supplychain #drugaccess #savinglives #iealmpactConsulting
In 2015 I started working for the Gates foundation, and spent most of the year in Ethiopia and Nigeria. Many days, I had the chance to sit with local team, warehouse managers, inventory specialists, and ministry of health leaders. I heard their perspectives and challenges and wins. It was an ongoing “go to gemba” experience. Then I had an intimidating brief for a learning session with Bill and Melinda: “why is supply chain so hard?” Supply chain capabilities often prevent life-saving and life-improving health care from getting past capital cities and further in countries in resource-constrained environments. I thought about that brief for a really long time and reflected on my time going to gemba. And you know at came to mind over and over? Herbie, and the theory of constraints, that says a system (our supply chain) can only performance at its lowest performing component. Combined with this, the process to evaluate public health supply chains would involve large consulting contracts, several weeks/ months, and a large list of go-dos produced. This was the foundations of a rapid, constraints-based maturity model to ask those closest to the work about their process capabilities, and aim their focus at improving the processes that would make the biggest impact on improving performance. Absolutely delighted to hear today's panel discussion on Global Health Maturity, and the 9th version of that initial maturity model, at this week’s ASCM conference in Brussels. “We sat with the team and spoke about this for four hours, and four hours later we had the results of where they need to focus this time” is pure gold from Clement M. NGOMBO, PharmD, CSCP, SCOR-P to show how rapidly teams can discover and apply the theory of constraints. A special thanks to Abe Eshkenazi for the willingness to pursue this space, and Peter Bolstorff who took a chance on looking at a different segment of supply chains all those years ago. #supplychain #community #globalhealth #development

Medicines are only effective if they are stored securely and safely. But in many countries, health storage facilities do not always have access to consistent power. To address this, the USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management project implemented a sustainable, climate-smart solution to increase and enhance existing health storage in the country. See the fourth part of our series of short videos illustrating the 8 USAID-endorsed Locally Led Adaptation Principles to fight #ClimateChange to see how the project did it! ????
