Jeff's Short (not quite a blog ????): It’s almost Veterans Day, so it’s time to talk about its purpose compared to the other two days people confuse. Veterans Day is to recognize those that served and are still living (like me). Memorial Day is a day to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Armed Forces Day celebrates those currently in the military and their families. ? On Monday, November 11, we collectively thank our veterans, old and young alike, for their defense and support of our constitution, courage to serve and protect our country, and bravery to stand up during difficult times. ? Another important way to honor veterans is to support their endeavors. Look for the veteran-owned businesses. There are approximately two million that create five million jobs in the US. You’ll find veteran-owned businesses in construction, retail, healthcare, accommodations, food service, real estate, transportation, finance, and more. Check for those verified as Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB) or Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) like Commercial Equities Group. Today, we pause to honor and express our deepest gratitude to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces. For this Veterans Day, we asked fellow members of the WorkSource Georgia team to answer the question, "What does Veteran's Day mean to me?". In the coming days we will be highlighting some of their stories and insights from those that served and those that know someone that served. "To me, Veterans Day stands as the second most significant federal holiday, right after Memorial Day. While Memorial Day solemnly honors the service members who gave their lives for our country, Veterans Day is dedicated to celebrating those who have served and continue to enrich our lives. Although these brave individuals have made it home, many have not emerged from their experiences entirely unscathed. Veterans share common experiences unique to military life; however, each individual’s journey is distinct. Some carry visible reminders of their service, while others bear the weight of mental scars, and many endure a combination of both. On Veterans Day, communities across the United States come together to express their gratitude in various ways, such as hosting parades and other local events. Many businesses join in by displaying messages of thanks or offering discounts to veterans. Some communities even organize initiatives aimed at providing essential resources and services for veterans in need. Additionally, Veterans Day serves as an important reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by many veterans who have not yet received the support they deserve and need. Honoring Our Veterans Today and Every Day Today’s a day to take a step back and remember the real meaning of service. Veterans Day isn’t just about honoring those who wore the uniform, it’s about recognizing the sacrifices they and their families have made along the way. Each veteran carries stories of grit and resilience. These aren’t just tales of bravery; they’re reminders of what it means to put others first, face down challenges, and keep going, no matter what. Every single veteran, whether they served in combat or kept things moving at home, played a role that deserves respect and gratitude. For me Veterans Day is a personal thing. When I talk about veterans I’m talking about my friends and family. My family was largely a military family until my generation. I was the only member of my generation to serve. My dad, stepdad, and all my grandpas served in the Navy or Air Force. I was a bit of a rebel and joined the Army. Which unfortunately led to a medical discharge due to a heart condition before I could complete my service. But that experience gave me a more profound respect of service members and the sacrifices they make that we never even think about. That's why after meeting with David Pere of From Military to Millionare and realizing how many veteran and active duty investors there are, I decided to start offering a 15% discount for all Aegis RSI services to active duty military and veterans. It isn't much but it is the first step on a long road I was want to take supporting our troops. How We Can Make a Difference Listen and Learn – Reach out, ask questions, and really hear their stories. Sometimes just listening is the biggest way to show you care. Support Veteran Causes – From career transition to mental health initiatives, there are tons of ways to get involved and show your support. Small Gestures, Big Impact – A genuine “thank you” or offering your help when it’s needed goes a long way. To all who have served, thank you. Your courage and commitment continue to inspire, and we’re grateful for everything you’ve done and still do to make our world a better place. #VeteransDay

Recruiting forward-thinking companies like Joby Aviation, which is working on innovations in electric air taxis, could indeed position states as leaders in future-focused industries. These companies bring high-quality jobs, stimulate economic growth, and often drive advancements in technology, infrastructure, and sustainability. By attracting businesses that prioritize innovation and future-oriented solutions, states can create hubs for cutting-edge industries, from green technology to advanced manufacturing. Supporting these companies can also inspire local educational institutions to build relevant programs, aligning workforce skills with industry needs. Plus, companies like Joby Aviation focus on green transportation, which aligns with broader sustainability goals and may attract talent interested in working on transformative, meaningful projects. To succeed in recruiting these job creators, states might consider offering incentives like tax breaks, grants for research and development, infrastructure improvements, and partnerships with local universities. By positioning themselves as supportive environments for innovation, states can drive economic growth in a way that aligns with a future-focused agenda that benefits both the business and the local community.
