In our latest op-ed for Devex, we teamed up with Refugees International to explore the financial case for localizing aid. ?? Our data shows that local organizations are delivering assistance 17%-32% more cost-efficiently than international actors, yet they receive only 1.2% of direct funding. It’s clear that local actors need to be empowered—not treated as subcontractors, but as equal partners in decision-making and resource allocation. Transparency is key to ensuring aid reaches the frontlines. We urge donors to invest in new models that empower local organizations, provide full passthrough of overheads to local partners, and call for transparency around UN cost structures. Read how this shift could unlock millions in cost-savings while delivering more impactful aid directly to the community ??https://lnkd.in/eWqNrGGS

Do you know what ???????????????????????? in humanitarian aid means? Localisation means empowering local responders in affected countries. This ensures that aid is delivered swiftly and efficiently, placing affected communities at the centre of the response. In times of crisis, local responders are often the first on the scene to provide life-saving help. By prioritising local labour and locally sourced humanitarian supplies, we reinforce the local presence and infrastructure. Stronger collaboration with local actors, including the transfer of knowledge and capacity, can: ??Better anticipate the response to a crisis ?? Facilitate community-led solutions ?? Promote long-term recovery and development This is why the EU works to involve and empower local and national groups in its humanitarian action. Our goal is to ensure that vulnerable people in crisis receive aid that is relevant, timely, and inclusive, and that those who deliver aid are accountable to the affected populations. Together, we can build stronger, more resilient communities. #EUHumanitarianAid

Today, as part of Dóchas (the Irish Association of Non-Governmental Development Organisations), we are reminding the Irish Government that there is #NoTimeToLose when it comes to #Budget2025. We are calling on the Government to: ?? Make real progress towards spending 0.7% of gross national income on overseas aid by 2030… ?? By increasing the overseas aid budget by €292 million ?? Ensure 25% of all overseas aid is allocated to locally led initiatives that can deliver support directly to affected populations ?? Deliver our commitment of €225 million yearly in climate finance - at a minimum ?? Set a pathway to increase this allocation to Ireland’s fair share of €500 million a year There are nearly 300 million people around the world this year in need of humanitarian assistance. We must play our part.

Doing research on Economic Assistance and Humanitarian Aid...within the context of sustainable and #impactinvesting. Often an overlooked area due to the 'gray' elements involved and the lack of ability to properly and positively influence structural impediments. ?? Question: Of the total $ in humanitarian aid provided by the United States to recipient countries, what percentage of that aid actually fulfills the intended purpose and reaches those in need? ?? Question: What is the current leakage related to United States Humanitarian Aid across categories? ?? Question: Where can you find the most detailed data related to aid leakage such as administrative costs, inefficiencies, mismanagement, and corruption? ? Traditional models are broken. ? We can do better. First attempt at better understanding market structure, business models, impediments, scalability, alternative financing mechanisms, partnerships, accountability, etc. #sustainableinvesting #impactinvesting

Humanitarian aid for successful development requires investment in both infrastructure and basic services, such as health and education. Achieving the right balance between the two can be difficult. EU aid, in recent years, has been shifting funding more towards infrastructure projects. The outgoing chief of the European Commission’s humanitarian aid department, Janez Lenar?i?, has flagged this as a potential problem in coming years. While he recognizes the importance of infrastructure projects, he also emphasized that these should not come at the expense of basic service assistance. https://lnkd.in/g_guHY6D ? #Devex #internatonaldevelopment #humanitarianaid #EUaid #EuropeanCommission #Apexconsulting?
