Ashley Bugge and I aren't scientists. We aren't your typical explorers. We're two #scuba divers ?? who love the ocean and who believe that anyone and everyone can create real and positive change. That's why we founded The Seabirds Foundation. To provide opportunities for regular people, like us, to have an extraordinary impact ??. Our all-women expedition team is made up of youth advisors, adventure aunties, and everyone in-between. Our common thread is our passion and shared purpose of saving our big blue ????. As a new non-profit, this #GivingTuesday we're raising funds to buy a special sewing machine ?? to create upcycled citizen science bags from recycled sails ?? and to help us move sustainably into 2025. These bags will allow anyone -- regardless of their schooling or training -- to participate in, understand, and contribute to ocean and climate science with their own two hands and fins. Marine Science Global Expeditions are an ongoing fact of life today. We are entering a niche that is unique among the many current players in the field. They generally operate in the non-profit space. Our thermal management efforts are over 20 years old so this is a logical connection to deploy our private resources and life long interests.

Our oceans are warmer than ever and our coral reefs are dying. It's a global crisis not only for marine life, but for humanity. We are more dependent on coral reefs than many realize and their loss will reverberate?throughout our world. How do we?turn the tide? Coral reefs are among the planet’s oldest, most productive, and most diverse #ecosystems. But, they are also one of the most threatened. Reefs around the globe are #declining at an alarming rate, and although the #problems have been well documented for over 50 years, not enough has been done to #protect and #conserve our planet’s oceans. Our #aim is to not rely solely on #governments to solve these problems, but to increase the capacity and #skill-sets of local #managers and divers around the globe to #empower a new generation of action oriented conservationists. Through #training courses we are giving people from many different backgrounds the #knowledge to initiate action, and through our #networks helping those who want to make a difference join up and realize their #goals. How can the Geological Society of London (GSL) make accreditation as a Chartered Geologist or Chartered Scientist more accessible? The GSL’s Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility (EDIA) Committee are in the process of discussing how the chartership application process can be improved from an accessibility perspective.?I have created a short questionnaire to capture feedback. The responses to this questionnaire will be used to aid discussion within the EDIA committee meetings. I am keen to capture feedback from ?? People who have been through the GSL chartership process. ?? People who are working towards chartership with the GSL and may have feedback and/or suggestions. ?? People who have achieved chartership with other professional bodies and are willing to share positives and negatives of their experiences. ??
