Happy Juneteenth! In the spirit of Juneteenth, Sandbox is embracing the philosophy of "a day on, not a day off." This means that rather than taking the day as a holiday, we are encouraging our employees to actively engage in activities that support our community and advance the principles of equality and justice. Here are some suggestions we shared with our team: ? Volunteer at a Juneteenth Event: A few members of the Sandbox team will be supporting the The Gloucester Institute's Juneteenth celebration. ? Support Local Black-Owned Businesses: Take the time to support Black-owned businesses in your area. Whether it's dining at a local restaurant, shopping at a boutique, or using services provided by Black entrepreneurs, your support can make a significant difference.? See here for a list of Richmond Black restaurants: https://rbre365.com/. ? Educational Activities: Use this day to educate yourself and others about the history and significance of Juneteenth. Attend virtual seminars, read books, or watch documentaries that delve into African American history and the ongoing fight for civil rights.? Here?is a great reading list: https://lnkd.in/g2zs285A Here?is a good podcast list: https://lnkd.in/eD9qhmYm ? Community Engagement: Participate in community events such as parades, festivals, and public discussions that celebrate Juneteenth and promote racial equality. Engaging with the community in these ways helps to build solidarity and awareness.? Here?is a list of things to do in RVA: https://lnkd.in/ekmsq44T Take special note of the Black History Museum's exhibit Virginia is for Music Lovers: A History of Virginia’s Black Excellence in Music! https://lnkd.in/e7TMxTTk ? Personal Reflection and Action: Reflect on ways you can contribute to advancing racial equity in your daily life and in our workplace. Consider mentoring, joining diversity and inclusion groups, or advocating for policies that promote equality. By taking these actions, we can collectively honor the legacy of Juneteenth and contribute to the ongoing pursuit of justice and equality.?We will ask that folks share their experiences and reflections at our 6/25 Tuesday standup so please be prepared to report out.

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, the holiday dedicated to the end of slavery and the liberation, culture, and freedom of African Americans in United States history. Black entrepreneurs, distillers, mixologists, and innovators have made rippling impacts on the beverage industry for as long as we've known, and commemorating their legacy is especially important for today's holiday. Check out this article we wrote for Juneteenth in 2022, spotlighting five Black innovators in the Beverage Industry. Cheers to education, history, and the continuing fight for equity!

Black women have been killing it in the kitchen since the beginning of time. Despite this fact, Black people — specifically Black women — have been underrepresented in the #culinary industry for decades. Although the number of Black chefs is increasing, there’s still plenty of progress to be made in giving us the recognition that we deserve. And with the new generation of Black foodies across the country looking to feed their culinary palates, there are several who are giving the people what they need — in the best way possible. From seasoned chefs to rising stars, here are seven women who are dominating the food scene, who need to be on your radar. https://lnkd.in/eXMHMTEh

Yes! Welcome to the Decade of Black Innovation! This is a BEAUTIFUL excerpt from Jessica Norwood's book: Believe-in-You Money: What Would it Look like if the Economy Loved Black People: "Believe-In-You Money is community-centred, rooted in storytelling and rituals of care and kinship. This money is drawn to the power of the people. This money makes you feel good. This money makes you feel seen. This money finds joy in the success of others. This money sees our shared humanity. This kind of money is an energy - Ase of life itself- and has been moving between peoples for a millennium". This is what we witnessed this week. Our members pooled their registration dollars together from this year's Black Innovation Alliance's 3rd Annual Sustainability Summit backed by a 1:1 match from UBS to invest in ensuring that Black entrepreneurs feel seen, share joy, share their deepest stories, and in many ways humanize capital by distributing Belief Capital. This is more than just money. It's power. It's energy. It's Belief. It's what Black entrepreneurs deserve and so much more. It's was a honor to witness this power of Belief Money this week! #BelieveinYouMoney #DecadeofBlackInnovation
Powerful story of how Black Innovation Alliance and our members, including a 1:1 match by our partners at UBS allowed us to distribute $50,000 of #BIABelievesinYouMoney to 5 well-deserving and powerfully hardworking entrepreneurs in Miami. Check our their inspiring stories here on Miami Herald and Axios: Miami Herald: https://lnkd.in/eGDsSben. Axios: https://lnkd.in/exerPEqZ Inspired by the incredible Jessica Norwood's Book: Believe-in-You Money: What Would It Look Like If the Economy Loved Black People?, this initiative sought to highlight the very notion of how Belief Capital can help Black entrepreneurs get the investments they deserve to scale and grow their businesses. Thank you, Miami Herald and Axios, for capturing this powerful story of inspiration, impact, and generosity! #BIABelievesInYou #DecadeofBlackInnovation

Are tacos and burritos sandwiches? A judge in Indiana thinks so. The ruling stems from a 2022 legal battle. Martin Quintana, a Mexican immigrant, wanted to open "The Famous Taco Mexican Grill" in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Allen County Planning Commission rejected his plans. The commission cited an agreement limiting the location to "made-to-order or subway-style sandwiches." Quintana argued that tacos fit this definition. After over two years of legal battles, Judge Craig Bobay ruled that tacos and burritos are Mexican-style sandwiches, allowing Quintana to proceed with his plans to open his taquería ???? Is this ruling a good thing or a bad thing for taquitos? Abogad@, Hispanic culture is mainstream pop culture. Your practice would alienate the general market by incorporating Hispanic elements. The popularity of Latinx culture will ensure that if you create culturally sensitive and relevant content, people from all cultures will connect with it. It’s time to fully embrace Latinx culture and perspective into your practice and marketing! #TacoTuesday #LegalWins #LatinxPower #HispanicCulture #MexicanFood #Taqueria #LegalMarketing #LatinoCommunity
