"Seventy four per cent of parents agree that boys and girls are treated differently. Yet most educators have never received any training on challenging gender stereotypes (Fawcett, 2020). This matters because gender inequality can have long-lasting negative effects. The gender pay gap, the lack of women in STEM professions, and the harm caused to men by ‘toxic masculinity’ – all of these things can be traced back to rigid ideas about gender, which we can work harder to undo during the early years." Aastha Dahal (PhD) and I interacted with around 70 members (with 16+ back to back meetings!) of the civil society from Gaidakot Municipality to assist the local government in drafting their Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Policy. We met doctors, police officers, educators, victims of the armed conflict, foresters, students, media personnel, cooperatives, persons with disability, the mayor, the deputy mayor and their staff to understand the current situation. We closely studied the existing budget to understand the current policy that guides it, and are now going to make recommendations through the GEDSI policy on the best way ahead for the people of Gaidakot! #goodgovernance #GESI #GEDSI

As we start a new week, we’d like to highlight how BOFAI’s mission aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals. We’re making sustainable impacts in these key areas: ?? SDG 4 - Quality Education: At BOFAI, we harness education to create a sustainable and equitable world. Through mentorship and legal education, we support the rehabilitation and reintegration of individuals in correctional homes. We also advocate and raise awareness about the challenges they face. ???? SDG 5 - Gender Equality: Gender equality is a fundamental human right. Our data reveals that 5 out every 10 young female at the Nigerian Correctional Centers for Children experience sexual abuse. Thus, we fight against violence and provide comprehensive support to these young females. ?? SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities: Individuals in correctional homes face significant discrimination. BOFAI empowers them with support and resources within and outside the centers thereby, promoting equality and successful reintegration. ?? SDG 16 - Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: Peace is crucial for development. BOFAI provides legal aid to promote justice and inclusion for marginalized groups in correctional homes. ?? SDG 17 - Partnership for the Goals: “If you want to go far, go together.” Collaboration is key to achieving sustainable impact. BOFAI partners with communities and stakeholders to drive meaningful change.
