Hurricanes don’t just create a path of destruction for homes and businesses. They are also incredibly expensive. The 2024 hurricane season alone has led to more than $100 billion in economic losses — this doesn’t even account for interrupted economic activity or loss of life — making the true cost of these storms much higher. While rising temps are partially to blame for more frequent hurricanes, the increasing cost of the destruction they cause is due to population growth in hurricane-prone areas. As the population of coastal communities has grown, so has the value of physical assets in harm's way — leading to clean-up and rebuilding efforts that are more expensive than ever. Unless we begin to approach climate-driven destruction with a resilient lens, we’ll continue to see costly destruction from hurricanes for a few reasons: - There are incentives to continually rebuild in the same hurricane-prone areas. - Assets that are more vulnerable to hurricanes translate into higher costs. - Storms are becoming more frequent and severe. Coastal homeowners, please be prepared for an above average active hurricane season. Review all of your policies now so you understand what is and isn't covered. Inspect the exterior of your home, *take inventory of your personal property, board up windows, trim loose tree limbs, etc. Don't wait until the last minute to do these things. Be proactive before the storms come! "The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is forecast to feature well above the historical average number of tropical storms, hurricanes, major hurricanes and direct U.S. impacts," AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Forecaster Alex DaSilva said. Researchers at Colorado State University agree that record warm Atlantic Ocean surface temperatures are a primary factor in their?predictions. So far, the 2024 hurricane season is exhibiting characteristics similar to 1878, 1926, 1998, 2010 and 2020.?? Hurricane landfalling probability included in 2024 report includes the probability of major hurricanes making landfall: ? 62% for the entire U.S. coastline (average from 1880–2020 is 43%). ? 34% for the U.S. East Coast, including the Florida peninsula (average from 1880–2020 is 21%). ? 42% for the Gulf Coast from the Florida panhandle westward to Brownsville (average from 1880–2020 is 27%). ? 66% for the Caribbean (average from 1880–2020 is 47%).? ? #Coloradoinsurance #2024hurricaneseason #coastalliving???

Colorado State University 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Forecast Colorado State University released their annual Hurricane forecast last week. You guessed it! The university is predicting a higher than average storm season due to "record-warm" temperatures in the Atlantic ocean. The strong El Nino from last year will give way to a La Nina between June and August. La Nina cycles typically increase both the number of storms and the strong of storms. Forecasters expect: - 23 Named Storms (compared to an avg of 14.4) - 11 Hurricanes (compared to an avg of 7.2) - 5 Major Hurricanes (compared to an avg of 3.2) This heightened forecast comes right as the property insurance market here in FL seems to be going thru a major softening....relative to last year. Another decent storm season from a loss perspective, as we experienced last year, will have real positive impacts on the property insurance markets. Let's hope that the university is wrong and this year can go as smooth as last year.... #propertyinsurance #realestate #multifamily #storms #wind #hurricanes #florida

??? 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season: A Stormy Outlook ??? Experts predicted an active hurricane season for 2024, and so far, they've been spot on. Here’s a quick recap of what's happened and what’s still ahead: In July, Hurricane Beryl made history as the earliest Category 5 hurricane on record. With estimated damages between $28 billion and $32 billion in the U.S. alone, Beryl set the tone for a turbulent season. August brought Hurricane Debby, which first struck Florida as a hurricane before making a second landfall in South Carolina as a tropical storm. AccuWeather estimates Debby’s damage and economic loss could also hit $28 billion, with severe flooding and storm surge contributing to the total. Looking ahead, NOAA predicts the season could produce: ? ?? 17 to 25 named storms ? ??? 8 to 13 hurricanes ? ?? 4 to 7 major hurricanes (Category 3 and above) What’s driving this above-normal activity? High ocean temperatures in the Atlantic, the onset of La Ni?a in the Pacific, weaker trade winds, and lower wind shear are all combining to fuel these powerful storms. Swipe through the slideshow above to discover seven key insights from CoreLogic’s latest Hurricane Risk Report on this year's hurricane season. ??? 2024 Hurricane Season Heats Up: October Threats on the Horizon The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season, now in its fifth month, has been both deadly and unpredictable. After early predictions of a hyperactive season and Beryl's record-breaking July landfall, there was a mid-season lull. However, Hurricane Helene's recent destruction across the Southeast has shattered hopes for a quieter season. Experts caution that October is historically an active month, particularly in the Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, and off the U.S. Southeast coast. Conditions in the eastern Atlantic remain highly favorable for storm formation, with Hurricane Kirk and Invest 91L potentially intensifying soon. Meteorologist Michael Lowry expects a return of strong hurricanes in early October, noting that storms in this month can be just as dangerous as those in September. Despite this, slower-moving systems that don’t reach hurricane status can still cause significant damage through flooding, a threat often underestimated. ??? Record-high ocean heat content continues to fuel storm development, though activity may decline by November. While earlier forecasts called for 23 named storms, the actual number may fall short. However, major hurricane numbers might still verify, with storms like Kirk and Invest 91L potentially adding to the tally. ?? The season could still surprise, as seen in 2005, when 11 named storms formed after October 1. #HurricaneSeason2024 #TropicalStorms #HurricaneHelene #AtlanticHurricanes #StayPrepared #StormWatch #HurricaneKirk #OctoberStorms #Invest91L #ExtremeWeather #ClimateImpacts #WeatherUpdate #FloodRisk #StormPreparedness #EmergencyAlert #OceanHeatContent #TropicalCyclones #HurricaneAwareness #DisasterPreparedness #StormSeason

This year, hurricane season starts June 1, 2024, and ends November 30, 2024, and will primarily affect the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Caribbean Sea. What sets this year’s hurricane season apart? If these forecasts are correct, 2024 will shake out to be the third most active hurricane season on record. Colorado State University (CSU) forecasts 23 storms, 11 hurricanes, and 5 major hurricanes—the highest prediction they have ever issued.
