24 years ago, around this time of year, we wrapped up our final high school track meet at Benilde-St. Margaret's School . As students, none of us knew how much our lives would change in the coming months and years, but the love for sports has always connected us. Coach Will invited me to throw shot put before I even knew what it was. Adwin next to me is my good friend from Saint Lucia, whom I haven't seen since graduation. Angie from Jamaica, whom I continued to compete with at the University of St. Thomas , will always be my teammates. A thrower and 2 sprinters... The bonds kids make in sports can last a lifetime. As a parent, I've come to see how important team sports are for kids. They get to learn so many life skills. Maybe one of the most important is how to work with people who are different from them: from different backgrounds, different points of view, and from different cultures.? I get to work every day helping kids get better at sports and helping the clubs they play for share valuable feedback on what the kids need to do to improve. If my kids' coach says they need to run faster or do plyometrics, then they know what to do, and I can also help them improve. As a parent, how do you respond to feedback about your kids? I know I personally still love coaches yelling at me to go faster or harder. As we get older, things in life change, but I will never forget my teammates and the memories we made together. 6 months before last summer, we decided to launch our first overnight basketball camp. Ambitious? Yes. A bit crazy? Absolutely. Here's how it went down: 1. 6 months to plan, and only 3 months to fill spots. 2. Zero photos, videos or testimonials to start with. 3. A creative team that pulled out all the stops. 4. Marketing efforts that generated solid leads. 5. Countless phone calls convincing parents to trust us 6. Incredible team of coaches and role models. Let's be real: launching an overnight camp this way is a high-risk move. We knew it, and there were moments we doubted ourselves. But here's what happened: We filled the camp. We ran an incredible week. We changed lives. Why did we push through? Because we believed in what we were creating. Because these kids deserved an exceptional experience. Because sometimes, you have to take big risks for big rewards. ???? ?????? ??????????????: ??????'???? ?????? ???????? ??????????????????. ??????'???? ?????? ???????????? ???? ???????????? ?????????????? ?????????? ????????????????. The result? A camp that exceeded even our own high expectations. Skills improved. Confidence boosted. Memories made. This is what happens when you combine vision, hustle, and a bit of calculated risk. Missed out this time? Don't worry. We're just getting started, and we're coming back stronger. Where should we set up camp next? Glen Raudanskis Yaron Sagi #MVPsCamps #BasketballCamp #YouthSports #EntrepreneurialSpirit

Sports do more than just build athleticism – they shape character and influence the path our youth take in life. Through sports, young athletes learn discipline, commitment, and how to handle challenges, all of which carry over into every aspect of life. ?? Coaches, parents, and teammates all contribute to an athlete's development, instilling valuable lessons that go far beyond the game. ?? Support Your Child’s Passion in Sports As parents, the words we use with our children before and after their sports activities can have a profound impact on their enjoyment and self-esteem. Psychological research shows that simple, positive statements are incredibly powerful. Before they play, encourage them with: - Have fun. - Play hard. - I love you. After the game, reinforce the positive experience: - Did you have fun? - I’m proud of you. - I love you. Remember, it's their game, not ours. Our role is to support and encourage, not to relive our own aspirations. Ask them about the parts of the game they enjoyed, not just the score. This approach helps kids love the sport and grow with confidence. Let's nurture their love for the game by giving them our support and positivity to imitate. #golf #juniorgolf

Episode 77: Teens should engage in golf because it offers a unique blend of physical, mental, and social benefits. Unlike high-contact sports, golf is a low-injury activity, making it safer while still providing excellent cardio exercise through walking and swinging. Mentally, golf requires strategic thinking, teaching teens to plan ahead and make thoughtful decisions—skills that are valuable in life beyond the sport. Golf also promotes patience, discipline, and sportsmanship. It’s a sport that teens can play throughout their lives, offering opportunities for personal growth and social interaction in a supportive environment. The slower pace allows for meaningful conversations, fostering friendships and connections that are just as valuable as the game itself. Additionally, with less saturation than sports like football or basketball, golf offers teens a chance to excel in a growing field, potentially leading to scholarships and professional opportunities. Programs like The First Tee make golf accessible and fun, integrating life skills with the sport. Overall, golf is a rewarding choice for teens looking for a balanced, enriching activity. Let’s discuss it https://lnkd.in/dzTHAG-p

Closing out 2024 with my 10th season at i9 Sports as a ?? ?? co-ed Head Coach; it’s always an amazing group of families and kids that I get the opportunity to meet, develop, build confidence and train. This year my 7 - 9 year old fall basketball ?? session consisted of 21 kids (my largest in any sport). A team this size required me to be super-proactive with coordinating specific practice drills, skills development and managing scrimmages while being able to build a small bond with each kid. It required me to understand their emotions, strengths, weaknesses including how much can I push, motivate and challenge them in only 6 weeks ??. Definitely has many characteristics of Entrepreneurship, would you agree? Every week I introduced a sportsmanship value that we discuss exhibiting on the court, at home and in the classroom. Humility, Respect, Inclusion, Enthusiasm, Teamwork, Positivity and LEADERSHIP. My team decided that they wanted to be named The G.O.A.T’s (not the grass grazing animal) but the Greatest of All Time??. They definitely practiced and scrimmaged up to those expectations. Great season, great kids and looking forward to season 11 starting in the New Year ‘25 ?? (I need the 2 week break). Then we are back at it, let’s go, let’s grow ?? #teamwork #humility #leadership #respect #inclusion #positivity #integrity #enthusiasm #motivation #challenge #hardwork #sportsmanship

In our last post, we discussed fostering a lifelong engagement with physical activity. Now, we'll focus on introducing children to sports, which can be a rewarding experience. Here are some tips to consider: ?? Engaging Activities: Create a positive and pressure-free environment through fun games and activities. This can introduce basic skills associated with various sports like basketball, soccer, or swimming. ?? Embrace Exploration: Encourage children to experiment with different activities to discover their preferences. This can spark a genuine enjoyment for movement and a foundation for future athletic pursuits. ?? Building on Basics: Fundamental movement skills like bike riding, throwing, and catching can lay the groundwork for more structured sports later on. ?? Effective Strategies: By incorporating these strategies, parents and educators can foster a positive association with physical activity and potentially nurture a lifelong love of sports. #PhysicalActivity #SportsExploration #YouthDevelopment

The Butterfly effect : Participating in a school event like sports day can shape who we become as adults. Last night when I was searching for a work file, I came across this photo album of my school. The excitement, the fun, and all the moments we shared with friends, I felt a wave of nostalgia. Right from school days I was more into sports than studies ( Actually, my whole life so far ). For me, Sports day wasn’t just about competition. It wasn’t just about winning because I know I will bring the cup for my Yellow House. But it was about marching together, cheering loudly, and having the time of our lives (and being caught by p.e.t and getting an earful for doing mischief) I miss those simple, carefree days of laughter and friendship. Not just fun. School days taught me: 1. Discipline – Staying focused and giving your best. 2. Teamwork – Achieving more when we work together. 3. Leadership – Taking responsibility and inspiring others. 4. Healthy Competition – Always aiming higher while respecting others. 5. Sportsmanship – Winning or losing with grace and learning from every experience. These values don’t just belong to the sports field; they stick with us in every part of life – from classrooms to sports to workplaces. What do you miss most about your school days? #Teamwork #Discipline #Sportsmanship #Growth #Leadership
