Reflecting on the last 6 Months leading the EMEA Construction Channel Sales team As I mark six months in my new role, I’m taking a moment to reflect on the journey so far. It’s been a period of immense growth, learning, and adaptation. Here are some key thoughts I’ve been mulling over. Trust Building: I’ve learned that trust is built over time through consistency, transparency, and mutual respect. It’s the foundation of our team’s success, a success that lies in a high trust environment. Adaptation: Adapting to new ways of working can be challenging, but it’s also where innovation thrives. Embracing change has been crucial and I’m grateful for the daily support of my own leaders and peers especially Angi Izzi Mike Malkin Adam Herried AJ Jenkins FISM and Christina Linauts helping me to support my team better. Prioritisation: Leading multiple team members across EMEA has reminded me to be agile and strategic in prioritising tasks and goals, ensuring everyone is aligned and empowered is so important. But recognising that everyone else’s priorities may be different is even more so! Delegating tasks is practical for efficiency ("This is true and very helpful"),but assigning all your tasks and disengaging entirely can lead to several issues: 1) Loss of Insight: When you completely rely on someone else, you might miss out on important details and insights. Staying involved helps you keep a pulse on the projects, decisions, and issues that arise. 2) Accountability: Ultimate accountability lies with you, not on your staff or someone else. If something goes wrong or needs your attention, it’s important that you’re prepared to address it. Your position requires you to take ownership of the results. 3) Respect and Trust: Showing your team that you’re willing to be hands-on, even if you have support, demonstrates commitment and builds trust. Relying solely on someone else can lead to misunderstandings or even resentment among other team members. Remember, this is to encourages balancing the delegation with accountability, reminding you to stay engaged and uphold responsibility rather than leaving everything to others and waiting for the results. Manager’s role extends beyond giving orders, following up with the team about their tasks completion or delegating some responsibilities.
