I am excited to share my op-ed published by the Cleveland Plain Dealer today. Enjoy and share. “WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The election of Donald Trump to a second term as president has jolted the immigrant community, spreading fear and anxiety about what lies ahead. As a first-generation immigrant and immigrant-rights attorney, I am on the front lines of this political reality.” https://lnkd.in/euHvVeaE

“The world is my country, all mankind are my brethren, and to do good is my religion.” – Thomas Paine This timeless quote speaks to the shared humanity that transcends borders, cultures, and nations. We embody this philosophy by championing the rights of individuals and families seeking a better life. We believe that every person deserves dignity, respect, and the opportunity to thrive, no matter where they come from. Immigration law is about more than legal procedures—it's about building bridges, uniting families, and fostering a global community rooted in compassion and justice. By working tirelessly to support our clients, we aim to uphold the universal values of goodwill and brotherhood that Paine so eloquently described. Together, we can create a world where borders don’t limit dreams, and justice knows no boundaries. #ImmigrationLaw #BirgLaw #JusticeWithoutBorders #GlobalCommunity #HumanRights #BuildingBridges #CompassionAndJustice

Children are fundamentally blameless when it comes to questions of their families’ legal documentation for U.S. residency—yet the conservative Heritage Foundation, which has been mapping out its playbook for a potential second Trump administration, recently released?its policy strategy?for overturning the 1982 Supreme Court ruling that prohibited children from being denied access to education based on their families’ immigration status. The think tank’s stance furthers the aims of Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott and a growing?chorus?of right-wing activists eager to?reopen?yet another?polarizing?front in American political discourse, this time to block some children from U.S. public schools. In a new piece for The 74 Media, TCF's Conor Williams and Alejandra Vázquez Baur, M.A. write that policies that make it harder for us to support and develop the skills of young immigrant children are not just inhumane—they undermine our ability to?attract and integrate?immigrant families, a strength?of the U.S. relative to its peer countries. https://lnkd.in/e4TTsQxV

We are standing at the precipice of one of the most consequential presidential elections in recent history, and one of the most troubling themes has been the rhetoric around mass deportation. This isn’t just rhetoric; it is a dangerous idea with the potential to tear apart families, disrupt communities, and inflict lasting trauma. That is why, yesterday, I joined with community leaders to reject calls for mass deportations altogether. The words “mass deportation” invoke dread and horror for many immigrant communities, especially those with personal or familial memories of forced removal and violence. These words, if left unchallenged, can become actions that lead to torn families and broken communities. We are a nation built by immigrants. We must all stand together united to reject mass deportation in word and deed. Trump’s remarks are not isolated incidents but rather a modern manifestation of an age-old tactic used to malign immigrant groups and sway voters. Ultimately the anti-Black rhetoric and baseless claims serve to distract from substantive discussions about policy and governance, shifting the focus to emotional and fear-driven reactions. #DebateAnalysis #PresidentialDebate2024

Access to a lawyer changes lives. There are many barriers to justice in immigration cases: lived trauma, language barriers, financial barriers, stigma, and more. Children especially have a difficult time navigating the system alone. With an attorney, they have a chance at justice. Attorneys trained through our Unaccompanied Children Program have the skills and resources to be their best advocate. Curious about the program? Explore opportunities at https://lnkd.in/e_zdxEcu

Fact Checking Donald Trump's RNC Speech Misinformation, disinformation, and fabrication sum up Trump's historically long GOP nomination acceptance remarks QASIM RASHID JUL 19 - In his latest bid for reelection, Donald Trump delivered the longest nomination acceptance speech in US history, peppered with so many falsehoods that it’s impossible to fact-check them all in a single article. Perhaps that was the point. His strategy relies on overwhelming the public with misinformation, banking on the notion that sheer volume will bury the truth. We must see through this vile rhetoric and reject the hate he spreads. To that end, I debunk four of his biggest lies in this article, on immigration, on crime, on foreign policy, and on climate and the economy. Let’s Address This.
