For the first time ever, see the Southwick House D Day Map up close as our interactive guide takes you on a step by step journey, from the early preparation right through to the final assault and the days after. Today marks the 80th anniversary of Operation Overlord, the Allied liberation of occupied Europe during the Second World War, which began on 6 June, 1944, commonly referred to as D-Day. Operation Neptune was the naval assault phase and involved safely landing 156,000 troops on 50 miles of defended coastline. The objective was clear - to transport and land Allied forces on the beaches of Normandy, France, to establish a foothold in Nazi-occupied Europe. Coordination of naval gunfire support, mine-sweeping operations, amphibious landings, and logistical support for the invasion would be crucial. The complex operation required years of meticulous planning and coordination among the Allied forces. https://bit.ly/3RaBBIj #DDAY #DDAY80 #DDayMap

This map puts a few things in perspective... ?? Another Council on Geostrategy masterpiece in 'A more lethal Royal Navy: Sharpening Britain’s naval power' report that was released last year. "The threats at sea are growing. Russia is undergoing a naval modernisation programme which will make the submarine threat in the Euro-Atlantic the most serious it has been since the end of the Cold War. The People’s Republic of China (PRC) is undertaking a substantial naval expansion programme, building up its ability to project naval power both in and beyond the Indo-Pacific. And threats to shipping from other actors – as shown by Houthi actions in the Red Sea – are proliferating" https://lnkd.in/gHB7tbPg This map really highlights the ability for land based strike to impact the littoral in key choke points throughout the Indo Pacific. If the Houthis can shut down the Red Sea to almost all shipping what could an Army achieve with land based naval strike missiles and other land launched weapons systems? Food for thought!

The M41 Saber System is a truly amazing piece of armaments technology.
??The M41A7 Saber System looms large on the battlefield, striking with deadly precision to haunt enemy armored vehicles, bunkers, and fortified positions. This combat-proven system gives our infantry and light armored reconnaissance battalions a terrifying edge, perfect for dismantling threats before they even know what hit them. ??In a bone-chilling display of firepower during Exercise KAMANDAG 8, Marines from the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit joined Philippine Marines from Marine Battalion Landing Team 7, 3rd Marine Brigade, for a live-fire coastal defense under the eerie, clouded skies of Apurawan Beach. With the M41A7 Saber in hand, they unleashed ghostly precision, making it clear that any threat lurking in the shadows should beware—the Saber is always ready to strike fear into those who dare to cross its path. ?? - Cpl. D-Day - 6 June 1944 - was the largest amphibious invasion in the history of warfare. The statistics of D-Day, codenamed Operation Overlord, are staggering. The Allies used over 5,000 ships and landing craft to land more than 150,000 troops on five beaches in Normandy. The landings marked the start of a long and costly campaign in north-west Europe, which ultimately convinced the German high command that defeat was inevitable. #DDay80 Here are 10 things you need to know about D-Day: https://lnkd.in/dH4rKfbW

?????? The Philippine Navy has?upgraded?three offshore patrol vessels with a submarine detection capability as part of a strategy to deploy groups of warships for maritime defense and deterrence. The deployment of “surface action groups” is a departure from previous employment of individual warships to protect marine interests, navy spokesperson Captain?John Percie Alcos?said. “We will be veering away from the conduct of lone ship or ‘lone wolf’ operations, to the deployment of several warships at any given time,” he?added. #military #army #defense #defenseindustry #security #philippines

D-Day. 80 years ago.??133,000 troops from the U.S., the British Commonwealth, & allies, landed on the shores of Normandy as Operation OVERLORD got underway.??Over 7,000 ships, manned by almost 200,000 naval personnel from 8 different countries.??Landing in places code named: UTAH, OMAHA, GOLD, JUNO, & SWORD, allied forces scaled cliffs and swarmed sandy beaches under the hail of withering gunfire.??Further inland, over 13,000 paratroopers carried on more than 800 aircraft, landed by parachute and glider.??Their goal? To gain a foothold in France from which additional allied forces could maneuver to retake Europe.??It remains the largest amphibious invasion in military history. Allied causalities were over 10,000, with over 6,000 from the U.S.??These men and women waded & flew into hell that day.??Like more recent wars, they fought for each other but… perhaps unlike any major conflict since, they fought for liberty and freedom in a world where both were at risk.??Today, is a great day to be an American, proud and free.??Part of the most compassionate, most generous, and most tolerant superpower the world has ever known. God bless the USA and its allies!?

The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLA Navy) is China's naval force, established in 1950, with approximately 250,000 personnel, aiming to defend China's sovereignty and interests at sea. The fleet comprises submarines, surface ships, amphibious ships, and auxiliaries, including two aircraft carriers, with two under construction and plans for four to six total. Capabilities include anti-ship ballistic missiles, anti-submarine warfare, mine countermeasures, and electronic warfare. With main bases in Qingdao, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, and an overseas base in Djibouti, the PLA Navy conducts maritime patrols, exercises, humanitarian assistance, and counter-piracy operations. Modernization efforts focus on advanced ship design, new technologies, and expanded naval aviation capabilities, solidifying the PLA Navy's presence in the South China Sea, East China Sea, Indian Ocean, and Pacific Ocean. #PLANavy #ChinaMilitary #MaritimeSecurity #NavalModernization #AircraftCarriers #SouthChinaSea #EastChinaSea #IndianOcean #PacificOcean #NavalAviation #SeaPower #MaritimePatrol #AntiSubmarineWarfare #ElectronicWarfare #CounterPiracy #DjiboutiBase
