Medical diagnosis errors can have devastating consequences. A 2015 National Academies report found that diagnostic errors are a contributing factor in approximately 10 percent of patient deaths. At a recent National Academies workshop, participants explored some of the potential benefits and risks involved in using artificial intelligence and other digital tools to improve medical diagnoses, including ways to mitigate potential biases and advance health equity.
