Today, the Arctic is quickly becoming the center of gravity for international cooperation. From around the world, countries recognize the abundant potential of this region which has been endowed with vast natural resources and new shipping routes. In many respects, the region’s opportunities and challenges necessitate a united approach. Thus, European and other countries are forging closer ties to ensure that development in the Arctic also takes the green and environmental protection routes. Nations in Europe, well known for their respective strengths in Arctic affairs are also busy taking the lead in renewable energy, green shipping and resource management.
