DER’s Regional Restoration Partnerships Program is excited to continue support for our Ecological Restoration Partnerships with Housatonic Valley Association, Merrimack River Watershed Council and Buzzards Bay Coalition,?to accelerate regional ecological restoration throughout Massachusetts.
Today, eight municipalities across Massachusetts were selected to receive preliminary design studies on eight dams. ?? These studies, funded and led by DER, will help dam owners evaluate the risks and opportunities of removal while providing critical data for future ecological restoration and climate adaptation planning. In addition, DER awarded $135,000 to three Regional Restoration Partnerships in the Buzzards Bay, Merrimack, and Hoosic, Housatonic, and Farmington River watersheds. DER’s Regional Restoration Partnerships Program boosts the pace and scale of ecological restoration in Massachusetts by strengthening local and regional organizations that collaborate on restoration projects. Reforestation is a daunting task on landscape and watershed scale, coupled with politricks such as forest service still allowing livestock to graze in burn scarred areas.? It is obvious communication is lacking for efforts in forest management as there is no mention of Tribal people as the reforestation efforts are on Ancestral Domain. I'm open to conversation to allow dialog for complimenting joint efforts in NM.? Our Community Based Education Program at Santa Fe Indian School has contributed to transplanting estimated 40,000 mixed conifer trees in burned scarred areas on Tribal Lands.? We have greenhouse that is part of our classroom that we offer to house trees for forest restoration projects.? Tribal nations need to have a seat at the table when it comes to this topic to compliment efforts. Unity based on common goals and aspirations.?

As climate change impacts our daily lives, urban issues like flood risks, polluted rainwater, and the need for water in green spaces are getting tougher to handle. That's where effective water management comes in. At ROCKWOOL Rainwater Systems, part of ROCKWOOL Group, we offer a solution for #rainwater capture, filtration, and reuse. Our #Rockflow system captures, stores, filters, and slowly releases rainwater back into urban areas, preventing floods and protecting water quality. It also stores water to keep trees healthy during dry periods. ???? During our recent field trip to Rotterdam, we partnered with Gemeente Rotterdam and Urban Future. to demonstrate the power of our innovations in addressing these challenges. Check out the video to see our solutions in action and learn more about their impact! ?? Mirella Amalia Vitale, Anne-Sofie Drud Gregersen, Corinna May, Daan Los, Gerald Babel-Sutter, Lisa Marie Gatterbauer, Jacqueline Laure, Alexander Urban, Katarzyna Nowak #ROCKWOOL #MoreThanInsulation #WaterManagement #ResilientCities #Cities
Around 45 city leaders participated in a field trip organised by the Gemeente Rotterdam & ROCKWOOL Group as part of the Urban Future 2024. Rockwool implements projects across the city to manage runoff, reduce flood risks, and generate fresh water for enhancing the city's green spaces. Some locations store water in aquifers to sustain trees during dry periods. ???? On June 5th, participants of the field trip got to see innovative water management techniques implemented by the municipality of Rotterdam at three sites in the city: ?? Driehoeksplein ?? Sparta Stadium ?? Museumpark Rotterdam Zhaoqian Zhou, one of the attendees, enjoyed the trip. "It was great to get practical insights into what the city is doing, understand the systems, and witness the benefits to citizens."
